With the Kentucky Derby happening this weekend, Drew Evans, founder of the streetwear brand Homme+Femme, has once again teamed up with Churchill Downs—the home of the Kentucky Derby. Homme+Femme has created an influential collection that includes signature varsity jackets, traditional workout blazer cardigans, crewneck sweatshirts, tees, and hats.

Homme+Femme is a streetwear brand doing its part to share not just any story, but the story of African American culture’s victories in the U.S. when it comes to the country’s oldest sporting traditions. Too often, these achievements are forgotten and rarely celebrated in modern America.

The Homme+Femme x Churchill Downs collection is a deeply rooted homage to the legacy of the Kentucky Derby and its prestigious history. This collaboration educates and illuminates the contributions of African Americans and their winning history as horsemen at Churchill Downs. In fact, 15 of the first 28 Kentucky Derbies were won by black jockeys.

The Kentucky Derby collaboration debuted May 1 and is available to shop at Churchill Downs and through HommeFemme.com. Pricing ranges from $65 to $600.

This year’s collection is focused on imbuing the prep school style of Southern culture that fans of the Kentucky Derby can appreciate. On May 3, the startup company will use the setting of the 2023 Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami, Florida to unveil five electric hypercars.

There are currently three distinct models available, namely the Atrax, LM1, and Barchetta, while the other two are evolutions. The Atrax model has two different versions, the Atrax Stradale, which is a luxury SUV, and the Atrax Extreme. The Barchetta will also be available in a Barchetta coupe model. These vehicles come equipped with distinct features and specifications, designed to meet the desired preferences of customers. The electric technology behind these newly unveiled hypercars will help revolutionize the entire automotive industry.

Based in Torino, Italy, Laffite Automobili was founded and helmed by Bruno Laffite, the grandson of French Formula 1 driver Jacques Laffite. Jacques competed in F1 from 1974 to 1986 and earned six Grand Prix wins while driving for the Ligier team. Bruno Laffite regularly distinguished himself as a professional driver. Between 1990 and 2000, he ranked among the top ten drivers of his generation and participated in over one hundred races.

In recent years, his company obtained road approval in California for two hypercars inspired by “rally-raid” (stock or modified cars for long-distance, off-road racing) and “sport prototype” (highest-level racing categories) races.

“My dream has always been to see race cars on the road,” Bruno Laffite said. “It has never left me since I was a child and has even increased throughout my life. Sure, it comes with an astonishing $2.4 million-dollar price tag, but for that you get a car that goes from 0 to 62 mph in less than two seconds (1.98 seconds to be exact). It has a maximum speed of 217 mph, and the car is fully electric. On a single charge, this hypercar can explore the roadways for 255 miles. And when it is time to charge, you need to only set aside 20 minutes to fully reboot your battery.

Editors’ Pick: Run DMC and Burton Collaborate on Two Collections

Around this time of year, people from all over the country travel from warmer areas to hit the slopes and enjoy the snowy conditions the winter months bring. Last month, a new entry to the ski category carved its way into the market, thanks to a collaboration between hip-hop group Run DMC and Burton.

For those not in the know, Run DMC is an OG (original gangster) hip-hop group from Hollis, Queens. Their collection with Burton, itself the originator of the world’s first snowboards, kicked off Feb. 9, and features a limited-edition run of snowboards, boots, bindings, outerwear, streetwear, bags and other accessories.

It became available for purchase Feb. 15 for the Mine77 x Run DMC collection. The second collection became available for purchase Feb. 22nd for Burton x Run DMC.

The idea and inspiration came from a tightly bound friendship rooted in passion for snowboarding, according to George Burton Carpenter. He worked on the collection with TJ and Jesse Mizell, the sons of the late Jam Master Jay of Run DMC. All of them share a love for the winter sport. The Burton x Run DMC collection is an homage to the legacy of Carpenter’s father, Jake Burton, founder of Burton Snowboards, and Jam Master Jay.

“The Burton x Run DMC collection breathes life into the legacy of our fathers, or as the world knows them,” Carpenter said. “Through this collaboration we carry on their legacy and amplify the connection between hip-hop and snowboarding. The designs remain true to our heritage while evolving the style and culture that we intend to pass on for generations to come.”

This collaboration is meant to bridge the gap between cultures and strengthen the connection between hip-hop and snowboarding. It celebrates the evolution and style that Run DMC brought to hip-hop and what Jake Burton brought to the world of snowboarding. This collection includes pieces inspired by Run DMC’s signature look, like the high contrast Run DMC Frostner Jacket, a throwback hip pack, and a Process snowboard that features a portrait of the group as base and topsheet graphics.

The Mine77 x Run DMC collection embodies hip-hop and snowboarding’s intertwined history of performance and culture. The bold pieces—like the Gore-Tex Tracksuit, as well as hardgoods featuring turntables and tape cassette graphics—look good but are also built to last.
