For Spring 2020 Burberry Goes Sustainable

If there is one thing that the COVID-19 pandemic makes most evident, it is that we need to reconsider the way we live our lives. For decades ecologists and scientists have been telling us we need to monitor our consumption and that global warming is real.

Many climate activists and earth scientists contend that the COVID-19 novel virus is having such a deleterious effect globally is due to overdevelopment and deforestation. Whether that is an accurate analysis is yet to be seen, but what is most obvious is that we need to re-examine how we consume.

Burberry is the latest global fashion brand to adopt sustainability. Following in the lead of other noted brands—Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, Versace, and Michael Kors—for spring 2020 Burberry launched their ReBurberry Edit collection.

This curated capsule collection has 26 eco-conscious style and is designed to make a positive impact on the planet. In this collection Burberry also puts upcycling to good use by giving regenerated fishing nets, fabric scraps and industrial plastic a new life. ReBurberry Edit collection is also crafted from circular materials and sustainable fabrics.

An even more powerful sustainable statement in the ReBurberry Edit collection is Burberry’s special labeling that details how the garment meets sustainability related criteria including recycled fiber content, worker health and wage standards and the use of renewable energy in production. The range spans accessories, such as eyewear and bags as well as apparel including outerwear and separates.

By 2022, Burberry aims to produce all its garments using eco-friendly techniques. “We strongly believe that driving positive change through all of our products at every stage of the value chain is crucial to building a more sustainable future for our whole industry,” said Pam Batty, Burberry’s Vice President of Corporate Responsibility.
