Just as President-Elect Donald Trump relinquishes control of his business empire so has his daughter Ivanka taken a “formal leave of absence” from her clothing and accessories brand as revealed on Ivanka’s Facebook account. Though Ivanka is stepping down from a leadership role at her fashion company, the company will continue to expand into lingerie.

Ivanka’s formal leave of absence is the result of a conflict of interest of an administrative position Ivanka may assume in President-Elect Trump’s administration. A 1960s anti-nepotism statute that says, “A public official may not appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement, in or to a civilian position in the agency in which he is serving or over which he exercises jurisdiction or control any individual who is a relative of the public official,” nor is that relative “entitled to pay.”

According to a yahoo.com article, Abigail Klem, the current Ivanka Trump company president will work with a board of trustees to manage the strategic and day-to-day operations of the business.

Trouble for Macy’s

Things are not looking good at Macy’s. Macy’s is set to close 68 stores and cut over 10,000 jobs due to low holiday 2016 sales. Macy’s currently operates 720 stores, making it the largest retail chain in the US.

According to a recent fashionunited.com article, Terry J. Lundgren, Chairman and chief executive of Macy’s attributed low holiday sales to “broader challenges” facing the retail industry. Lundgren also admitted that the decline in sales was “consistent with the lower end of our guidance, we had anticipated sales would be stronger.”

Macy’s shares have fallen more than 10 percent.

Ralph is back

Ralph Lauren returns to New York Fashion Week: Men’s (NYFWM) roster after an absence of two years.

According to WWD, Lauren will show his Purple Label fall 2017 collection for specially selected audience of February 1 at his Madison Avenue headquarters.

Unlike his women’s wear collections, Lauren prefers to show his men’s collection for a privately selected audience of buyers and editors in a presentation as opposed to a runway show.

In his absence from the NYFWM roster, Lauren has presented his menswear collection in Milan.
