THEIA Bridal Fall 2017

Theia_Bridal_Spring_2017When is a bridal dress more than a bridal dress? For its fall 2017 collection, THEIA demonstrates that for many modern brides, their bridal ensemble can go beyond the nuptial ceremony.

In past seasons, THEIA has been celebrated as a brand that envisions wedding garments seen through lens of modernity and the way women currently live their lives. This particular point of view has produced bridal collections that have been inspired by myriad points of view, from David Bowie to Chinese opium dens to Irish water nymphs. These varied references, though unorthodox and sometimes off the beaten path, helped expand the bridal lexicon of what modern brides could wear. And while some fashion pundits sometimes cringed at creative director Don O’Neill’s penchant for bridal seen though his special lens of modern sensibility, others recognized that O’Neill had his finger on the pulse of something new and special.

Collages946Still, nothing stays the same in fashion and all brands of note evolve. This season Don O’Neill opted to go back to THEIA’s roots. For fall 2017, THEIA looked to the origins of the brand and opted for a collection that appeals to the modern bride that is looking to get away from cold temperatures and anticipates her wedding ceremony in a temperate location. This destination bride expects to be dressed in a wedding garment that travels well.  So, simplicity is a main focus of this fall 2017 collection.

Collages947For fall 2017 Don O’Neill infused a bohemian aesthetic into this bridal collection evidenced in off-the-shoulder lacey gowns and looks that were less fitted than in previous collections, evoking an easy, breezy vibe. This collection also incorporated a variety of separates, giving the destination bride more options for her special day. And though many industry professionals may miss the edgy bridal looks that Theia has become known for, this return to its roots collection demonstrates that Don O’Neill is keenly adept at creating wedding garments from a wide spectrum of perspectives.
