Editors’ Pick: J.Crew Collabs with U.S. Winter Ski and Snowboard Teams

With a little more than a week from the 2026 Winter Olympics, several fashion brands have collaborated with U.S. Olympic teams for the Olympic pursuits. J.Crew has joined the list of fashion brands designing for the U.S. Olympic teams.

For their collaboration with the U.S. Winter Olympic Ski and Snowboard teams, J.Crew has designed a 26-piece collection that includes knitwear, loungewear, and essential cold-weather accessories for women, men, and kids. “We encouraged our design team to pitch ideas across all categories, including those outside their usual focus, in order to foster a collaborative environment and generate a broad spectrum of creative concepts,” Olympia Gayot, creative director of women’s and children’s design at J.Crew, as reported in townandcountry.com. “We started with over 100 designs to narrow down to the final collection!”

Inspired by the Winter Olympics, the skiers themselves, and American color palette, and athletic energy, J.Crew men’s creative director Brendon Babenzien looked to combine these points of interest with vintage looks from J.Crew’s catalog of garments. “I tend to be inspired by the past often in my design process. I learned to ski in the 70s and eventually snowboard in the mid-80s, so I drew inspiration from that time. I’m often in awe of the amount of innovation that took place in the 80s both in true sewing but also culturally,” explained Brendon Babenzien in a townandcountry.com article.

For this collaboration the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Winter Olympic teams, J.Crew creative directors looked to J.Crew’s iconic ‘Fair Isle’ pattern. “We used ‘Fair Isle’ as a cornerstone of the pattern work, drawing on our long history of creating patterned knitwear throughout the ’80s, ’90s, and into today, making it a natural source of inspiration,” detail Olympia Gayont. “‘Fair Isle’ represents a key heritage moment for us, expressed across socks, hats, and sweaters that have long been part of our winter assortment, unified into a single story through color and pattern and designed to be worn together or separately. For this collection, we also introduced some of our more modern yarns—like Brushed Cashmere—into this [retro-inspired] line.”

Standout looks in this collaboration is the ‘Fair Isle’ rollneck sweater with patches in vintage wool, the anorak, graphic quarter-zip sweatshirt in vintage wool, J.Crew sweater puffer jacket, and U.S. Ski team rooster hat. The J.Crew 2026 Winter Olympic Ski and Snowboard team collection became available on January 6.

“Fashion should stay out of politics.”

If that sounds familiar, it’s because the phrase has become a go-to comment in recent years. Yet, anyone who works in fashion knows the truth: fashion has always been political.

Clothing doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s shaped by, and shapes, our social values, our ideas of taste, the norms we assign to gender, and the image we project to the world. Fashion trends inevitably become part of larger cultural conversations, many of which can end up shaping future policies.

And the fashion industry itself is political, too. The garments that forward these trends pass through the hands of countless global workers, many of whom are underpaid. The fashion supply chain contributes heavily to global pollution and carbon emissions. Every hemline, every campaign, every shipment touches a political question.

So, when Anna Wintour made headlines for saying Melania Trump would not appear on the cover of Vogue, many in fashion saw the decision as a defensible one—especially given that the administration’s policies targeted groups central to the creative and garment-labor industries, including immigrants, women, and queer communities.

But here’s the thing: when fashion and politics intersect, the result can be both powerful and beautiful. Some brands not only accept this truth—they embrace it. Below, Fashion Reverie highlights the labels that lean into their politics and use fashion as a platform for cultural expression and change.

La Ligne

La Ligne, the New York–based brand known for elevated basics, has never hesitated to make its political stance known. In 2016, the label released a tee printed with the phrase “je suis avec elle” (“I’m with her”), a nod of support for Hillary Clinton. The shirt sold out almost immediately. In the years since, La Ligne has continued to engage politically, creating campaigns encouraging mask-wearing during the pandemic and voter participation ahead of the 2024 election. Their message: everyday staples can still make a statement.

Gap Inc.

Before rushing to the assumption that small brands are the only ones that enter into the political sphere, note that Gap, Inc. is unafraid. During the 2020 election cycle, the company launched voting-rights–themed collections across multiple brands, with messaging that emphasized racial justice and climate awareness.

While American Eagle’s recent Sydney Sweeney ad stirred debate around the corporation’s political leanings, many Gap Inc. brands have remained consistent in their progressive messaging. The company’s various sub-labels may not always move in lockstep, but political engagement has undeniably become part of their broader brand identity.

Jason Wu

Jason Wu rose to prominence in the late 2000s after dressing First Lady Michelle Obama. This partnership would help to launch him from the fashion world into the political world, as well. And it turns out, Wu fits into both worlds flawlessly. In 2016, Wu designed merchandise for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, further solidifying his position within the political fashion sphere.

But don’t assume he’s only willing to dress left-leaning taste makers. After Melania Trump wore one of his dresses, Wu stated he would be willing to dress any First Lady, emphasizing the importance of neutrality.

Martyna Sowik

Polish designer Martyna Sowik uses fashion as a medium for social critique. Her work explores “the reality and condition of humans,” as stated on her website, and in recent years, she has taken explicit aim at political nationalism. In The United States of Poland, Sowik incorporated nationalist slogans and deconstructed silhouettes to comment on the rise of the far-right in Eastern Europe. The collection reimagined symbols associated with the former Eastern Bloc, challenging their meaning and cultural weight.

Bethany Williams

U.K.-based designer Bethany Williams approaches politics through sustainability and labor ethics. While many brands claim to be eco-conscious, Williams’ work shows real commitment. She actively advocates against greenwashing and prioritizes equitable production. Her garments are hand-woven in Italy by artisans earning fair wages, a sharp contrast to the mass-production systems that dominate the industry. Editor’s Pick: A Tall Girl’s Guide to Pants

Fashion Reverie readers: permission to be vulnerable with you for a moment? Being tall is oftentimes romanticized by the media and those that haven’t experienced it firsthand. I’m telling you now, it is a scam. It might sound like a first-world problem, yes, but that’s until you experience finding that perfect pair of pants, the ones you’ve been eyeing all season. You order them, you pull them on, only to realize they look like capris on you. And here’s the thing: you can always tailor a pair of pants to be shorter. You can always nip a waistline, hem a cuff, but you can’t always have your tailor let out length on a pair of pants.

That’s why this year I’ve made a point to ditch purchasing pants that aren’t made in “tall” or “long.” In truth, it is a sacrifice and diminishes my options even further as a picky shopper. But ultimately, it is a sacrifice worth making. With a 5’10 frame and legs that have taken up more than half my body my entire life, I prefer my pants not to resemble capris. I’ve begun to curate a pant collection I am happy to reach select every day. Here are a few that are products tested by yours truly and are guaranteed to keep your ankles warm through the upcoming colder months.

A&F Sloane Low Rise Tailored Wide Leg Pant in cream

Nice pants, if you can get them. They sell out fast, but if you find the color you are looking for, order them in “long,” and maybe don’t wash them with a grey sweater like I did. Rookie mistake. Alas, my favorite cream pants have now become my favorite grey ones.

ASOS DESIGN Tall tailored slim straight pants in navy

Asos is so slept on in my opinion, but it is my personal go-to for tall girl needs; work pants, jeans, floor length gowns (that actually touch the floor) and more. These specifically go so far past my ankles they tend to drag if I don’t wear a platform sneaker, heeled boot, or heel with them. However, this is a problem I never get to have, so I kind of relish in it.

Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Taylor Wide-Leg Trouser Pants in black

These come with, get this, an adjustable waistband. No more tailoring your waistband to keep up with the length of your pants! Recall ordering a size or two up, in hopes of extending the length? Full disclosure: these could be a bit longer on me, but they just graze the tops of my feet, so they get a pass from me. I am a fan of Old Navy for tall pieces in general.

JustBlackDenim – The Longer Length Straight Jean in medium denim

I had my roommate open these for me while I was away (that’s how excited I was to receive them). She held them up to her 5’4 frame and they went almost the full length of her body. I got home, tried them on, and they fit like a glove, just dusting the floor. These might be the ultimate tall girl jeans. P.S. Abercrombie – Women’s Low Rise Baggy Jean in medium with raw hem, and medium tinted

I ordered two pairs of these, in different washes, sight unseen, and boy, am I glad I took that leap of faith. These are by far my MVP in low waist denim and pants in general. They fall in just the right place on my hips, and are long enough without dragging. There’s a perfect amount of stretch and room in the inseam to where I don’t feel too exposed; unlike other low waisted pants I’ve tried before.

These tried-and-true pieces hang in my closet (or on my hips) as we speak. I am so happy with my decision to ban non-tall pants in my collection. Happy shopping!
