Frederick Anderson looked to his Southern roots and connections to Southern folk music for his spring 2027 collection. Anderson combined his penchant Southern charm and heritage with his fantasy of an ancestral garden of sorts where all kinds of flora come together to form a mosaic of harmony and diversity.
“My garden is rich with all the stories of our ancestors who built a country where we are free from persecution for having individual beliefs. What is known as American style was influenced by all the people who have migrated and built lives here,” Anderson in show notes. Well, this is America on paper, but the reality is far removed from this idyllic version of America.
That said, for the most part these influences worked well in the spring 2027 outing; however, Anderson’s signature knitted and crocheted garments were somewhat a miss. The knitted and crocheted garments fit nicely in Anderson’s idealized American garden. Where Anderson went off course was embellishing the crocheted garments with big knitted and crotched flowers, hiding the craftsmanship of the garments.
Anderson’s diverse garden included clothes that his consumer can wear at every jointure of her day. Though a strong sensual and sexy point of view is evident in many of the garments in this collection, who says a women cannot be sexy throughout the day? Anderson’s woman is proud of her sex appeal and celebrates it wherever she is!!
The diaphanous, sheer clothes were the most obvious crowd pleasers, with the several white garments encapsulating Anderson’s expert skill at melding a fashion-forward sensibility with silhouettes that we are all familiar with. As with other collections, Anderson solidly places this spring 2027 collection in the 1970s. This was an era when women were coming into the own and being more assertive, not needing a nod from men. Anderson’s consumer is confident, self-assured and adventurous, qualities that align with the liberated woman of the 70s.
