Dear Editor: I have been invited on a trip to Martha’s Vinyard especially Oak Bluffs and I am told it is vey casual and laid back. Is that true? I don’t want to overpack, but I want to make sure that I have everything that I need. I’m visiting in the month of August, what should I wear?

Thank you for your question and Fashion Reverie admits that Martha’s Vinyard, especially Oak Bluffs, is one of our favorite places to see and be seen! It is very casual and laid back but not in a wear-whatever-you-want-to-wear, thrown together kind of look. It is casual but very stylish. The looks are crisp, clean, polish and well executed. The average temperature high is 77 degrees Fahrenheit with the temperature dropping down to low 60’s.  So, here’s Fashion Reverie’s curated guide on what to wear!

Heading to Biscuits for Breakfast? This restaurant has some of the best breakfasts on Martha’s Vineyard, hence they always have a line! Doors open at 7am and close at 3pm so get there early or order ahead and take it to go. The perfect outfit is a cute, oversized hoodie, your favorite short shorts or barrel jeans with a pair of sleek sneakers or flat ankle strap sandals. Add your baseball cap if you did not have a moment to brush your hair before running out the door to claim your space online.

Heading to take in a movie or panel discussion? Add a maxi dress with a nautical or floral motif. Rather its strapless, halter or ruffled you sure to appear polished yet carefree. Add statement jewelry such as a fabulous colorful earring and a cute neutral-colored tote bag with all your essentials–water bottle, visor and shades (what else could you possibly need).

Spending the day at the Inkwell Beach? This calls for a beach chair, umbrella, cute towel and great books to read. Choose a bathing suit set that comes with a great pair of pants or skirt to wear as a coverup in case you want to head straight to lunch.

Ending the evening at the Strand Theater for a comedy show? Think beautiful, wide-legged trousers with a fitted top and jean jacket (it’s cool in the evenings).
