New York Fashion Week: Fall 2024 Pre-Coverage

It’s that time again. The New York Fashion Week (NYFW) fall 2024 season is almost here. Hopefully, this season will get more media traction than other fashion weeks post COVID-19 pandemic.

There are some changes afoot for the fall 2024 season. The main change is the new venue at the Lehigh-Starrett building on 26th Street and 11th avenue. This new venue replaces Spring Studios which had been a central venue for NYFW for several years. Still, industry professionals will be forced to trek all over Manhattan in an attempt to witness some great fashion collections.

That said, what has not changed is the absence of many fashion designers who were mainstays of NYFW, namely Monique Lhuillier, Yeohlee, Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley, Marchesa, Tadashi Shoji, Rodarte, Opening Ceremony, Byron Lars, Kevan Hall, and many others. Though Ralph Lauren and Mark Jacobs are presenting, they are not on the official CFDA fashion calendar.

For those media outlets that have covered NYFW for decades, it is surprising how few brands now present fashion collections. Two decades ago, there would be as many as 300 brands presenting fashion collections season after season during NYFW. Now, there are fewer than 75 brands on the official NYFW calendar. And this reduction started before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The powers-that-be of NYFW, IMG and the CFDA, need to work hard to bring these esteemed brands back to one back to New York City, one of the top fashion capitals of the world. While it is important and necessary to bring in emerging brands into the NYFW fold, you cannot throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak.

Still, we persevere and NYFW still causes our heart to beat faster and our pulses to quiver. Returning fashion brands include, but is not limited to, Christian Cowan, Naeem Khan, Pamella Roland, Badgley Mischka, LaPointe, Batsheva, Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, Dennis Basso, Tommy Hilfiger, Libertine, The Blonds, Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet, Prabal Gurung, and many more.
