The 2021 Met Gala Top Red-Carpet Looks

The biggest fashion night of the year is back! The Met Gala usually happens the first Monday of May, but because of the pandemic it was a smart move to do it right after New York Fashion Week (NYFW).  It appears that some celebrities are almost like us mere mortals, anticipating getting out again, flaunting great style. Unlike us mere mortals, celebs can afford luxury fashion or get luxury brands to supply the kind of fashion we mere mortals can only dream about!!

And what better red carpet to make your reappearance than the Met Gala red carpet. Though there were rumors that our favorite celebs would shy away from this Met Gala’s red carpet because of Delta variant fears—replaced by TikTok and Instagram phenoms— many of our favorite celebs showed up and in phenomenal style for the opening of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” which opens on September 18th, and it will be on view for a whole year.

So favorite looks? Let us know if you agree with Fashion Reverie

This fashion icon brought drama to the 2021 Met Gala. A grand feathered headdress from Harris Reed with a matching skirt over a glittering gold bell-bottom bodysuit screamed, “Nobody does it better.”

It is hard to say what was the inspiration for this jaw-dropping garment, but it does fit the multicultural theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” This editorial worthy look we will be remembering for years to come. And at age 66, Iman is still slaying!!

Is this Grimes, or a Marvel Comics character?  Grimes looked like a warrior princess in a fabulous outfit, a silver mask and with a sword, nonetheless.  Her sci-fi creation was inspired by “Dune,” she said during Vogue‘s live stream. The sword was made from melted-down guns, made by MSCHF, the art collective that made Lil Nas X’s “Satan Shoes.”

Lil Nas X

Now this is someone who dominates the red carpet. Lil Nas X owns his red-carpet attire, and the world is his runway. He flaunted three outfits at the 2021 Met Gala—a big, embroidered gold cape, gold armor, and a jumpsuit! It was a mini fashion performance and Fashion Reverie enjoyed every minute of it. Which look out of the three is your favorite? All were made by Versace

Gabrielle Union

Union was in town promoting her new book, You Got Anything Stronger, so after press junkets, Gabrielle stopped by the 2021 Met Gala. And stop buy she did!!

Gabrielle Union lit up the red carpet, literally, in an Iris Van Halpern gown that changed colors as Union paraded this outstanding look on the red carpet. “Every step it changes; all of the colors change, just like America,” Union told “Entertainment Tonight” on the red carpet.”

Billie Eilish

The Met Gala co-chair arrived ” Happier Than Ever” and in a look that was better than anything we have ever seen her in. She showed up in a voluminous peach Oscar de la Renta gown and in a very feminine look. Her bleach-blonde hair was giving Merlin Monroe vibes all the way.

Lorde make you think of an aristocratic lord but in a fashion kind of way. She simply stunned in a jeweled headpiece and a custom Bode gown that was an open jacket perfectly fitted for her body type. She seemed like a statue ready to be placed in the museum!

Allyson Felix

Not is she the most-decorated American track and field athlete (11 Olympic metals), she also knows how to turn it out on the red carpet. Allyson Felix wore a pale blue Fendi couture gown covered in 240,000 ostrich feathers and crystal beads.

With her banging body, it was expected that Felix would have worn something form fitting. Instead, she went against the grain and donned a voluminous gown. And it worked!! She looked heavenly.

Kim Kardashian

Fashion Reverie saw this look a few times in just the last few days by Balenciaga. Or did we? It was suspected Kim would show up wearing a mask and she did give us a hint. It is funny she tagged her makeup artist on social media, though we couldn’t really see her makeup. But a big ponytail, full black cape garment along with the mask was unique on this red carpet and it did bring attention!! Innovation with little effort, turned out perfectly.

Sudha Reddy

Are you familiar with Sudha Reddy? If not, then you should!! This billionaire philanthropist was one of few South Asians invited to the 2021 Met Gala. Reddy was beautifully attired in a Falguni Shane Peacock haute couture embellished golden gown with a huge trail, adorned with Swarovski crystals, sequins and bugle beads, and featuring a design inspired by the American flag.

Dan Levy

He looked immaculate in a blue Loewe‘s Jonathan Anderson and Cartier ensemble that Fashion Reverie was impressed with. Dramatic puffed sleeves, diamonds, and light shades of blue and pink with a queer couple kissing on his chest, now, that’s drama!!

Dan collaborated with the designer to create this look that celebrates “the resilience and love and the joy.” Fashion Reverie thinks it was a successful collaboration!!

Jennifer Lopez

J Lo shows off true American fashion in a Ralph Lauren ensemble! She wore a beautiful fitted high slit, deep V-neck dress with a cowboy hat and chunky jewelry. It might not be her usual sparkling ensemble, but she always looks dazzling, especially and her date? Ben Affleck of course, both fresh from Venice Film Festival.
