Tommy Hilfiger and Romeo Hunte have come together to create a fall capsule collection that features classic pieces with a modern twist. The TommyXRomeo collection is a meshing of Tommy Hilfiger’s Manhattan prep and Romeo Hunte’s Brooklyn street style. As a long-time associate of Hilfiger’s, Hunte was able to pull inspiration from the Hilfiger archives, reimagining iconic pieces like the oxford, trench coat, and biker jacket. It is also important to note that this collection is a part of Tommy Hilfiger’s People’s Place Program, which creates opportunities for creatives from underrepresented Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) communities and creates visibility fostering inclusive communities throughout the industry.
Any of the pieces in this first collaborative effort between Hilfiger and Hunte would be a great addition to a consumer’s wardrobe. Each piece, when paired with existing items in your wardrobe, can elevate and take your look to a new level. Whether you are looking for an outerwear piece that is a standout, revamped basics, or bold accessories, this collection has something for everyone.
The pieces in this capsule collection are edgy yet sophisticated. Hunte uses materials and craftmanship to reinvent classic pieces by deconstructing and reimagining tried and true iconic elements from Hilfiger’s extensive archives. Hilfiger’s revamped buttoned-down sweater is an example of reworked garments in this capsule collection. The classic buttoned-down sweater with Ithaca stripe was reimagined using colors that are inspired by the New York City subway.
Throughout the collection you can see how Hunte has used his signature techniques of proportion perspectives and mixed media to elevate this capsule collection to a modern distillation of reimagined classics. Examples of Hunte’s signature aesthetics can be found in the outerwear garments, which is known for, as well as the buttoned-down sweaters and denim-leather pants.
This capsule collection has expanded its audience appeal by employing a genderless point of view. There are several garments that can be worn by either sex, creating a wealth of combinations and pairings. Hilfiger’s classic flag logo and Hunte’s graphic six-block logo can be found throughout the collection, embroidered, rubberized, and printed on multiple pieces.
