Summer, the season of fresh air and fresh gear. While most of us common folk have been somewhat distanced for the past year, some celebs, particularly music artists, have been out and about, showing us the latest additions to their wardrobes. If you’re a keen fashion fan, you’ve taken note of the new style trends for the summer. But just in case you may have missed one or two, Fashion Reverie has created this summer style out inspired by some the most fashionable guys to hit the stage.

Nautical – Jimin

BTS boy bander Jimin is one of the most popular, and fashionable, Kpop stars topping the charts. Known for his delicate vocals and rhythmic dance moves, he seems to enjoy a day of relaxing and rejuvenation at the waterfront. And of course the nautical aesthetic is at the top of our list for summer trends. Who doesn’t enjoy a nice day by the water? To stand out from the crowd, weather on the beach or a yacht, ditch the standard sailor stripes for a more eye-catching shirt to make some waves of your own.

Bermuda Shorts – Tyler The Creator

Bermuda shorts have never been just for the tropics. Whether in the Caribbean or in the urban jungle, you can be cool, literally and figuratively, in a pair of stylish shorts. Hardly anyone exemplifies a chill, down-to-earth vibe more than rapper Tyler the Creator. Coupled with fun shirt and comfortable slides, you’re ready for a relaxed day. Easy breezy.

1970’s and Military – Harry Styles

It’s coincidental that Styles is Harry’s last name, but he makes sure to live up to it. He loves taking risks by pushing the fashion envelope forward, yet he often does so by taking a step into the fashion world of previous eras. He seems to effortlessly evoke the mood of any era, but has a penchant for the 1970’s. You can convey your own 70’s style with a big patterned shirt and wide-legged or flared pants. Here, we’ve added a cropped bomber jacket to further signal the 70’s, but as the military aesthetic is another summer trend, it works perfectly.

Suitsupply Havana Suit $498
Eleventy tee shirt $162
Etro pocket square $145
Fratelli Rossetti shoes $327

1980’s Suiting – Leslie Odom Jr.

Leslie Odom Jr. churned out look after look after look for every red carpet and press appearance during award season. The trophy-winning actor is a talent that we haven’t seen in ages. He’s an old soul, and his fashion sense seems to be right at home in the 1980’s. Boxy, double breasted suits with peaked lapels and fitted shoulders is what the new look calls for. You may not be able to sing as smooth as him, but at least you can look as smooth as him.

Vision of Super shirt $623
Transit shorts $188
Vision of Super socks $25
Y-3 boots $330
Marcelo Burlon bucket hat $120
Off Duty sunglasses $158

Tailored Black and White – Taeyong

No matter the season, some people like to wear all black. It’s a striking image- one that can be strong, mysterious, and complex. As the lead singer of Kpop boy band NCT, Taeyong certainly has a lot on his shoulders. Even though his is famously shy, an all-black outfit is like fashion armor, showing that he can be both quiet and powerful.

Gear Frost jacket $70
HIS gold trimmed tee shirt $59
Ksubi jeans $98
Nike sneakers $125
Other chain $87
Gas Bijoux ring $76

Vibrant Colors & Global Culture – J Balvin

Conversely, some people love explosions of color. Color is a nonverbal way of communication, and after over a year of living behind masks, we want to reconnect as much as possible. In certain cultures, different colors and patterns hold special significance. In a nod to the self-expression, vibrant colors and global culture are two of the biggest fashion trends this summer. One artist who lives out loud in full color is J Balvin. His music and fashion connects fans from all four corners of the globe. While we still may not be able to travel everywhere, at least we can be connected through our wardrobe.

MSGM shirt $192
Takeshy Kurosawa pants $1
Raf Simons sneakers $161
Ray-Ban sunglasses $144
Daniel Wellington watch $223
Northskull chain $291

Statement Shirts – Maluma

It’s not just bright colors that get heads turning, but incredible prints and patterns always make people do a double take as well. Ask Columbian musician Maluma. He’s known for making quite the entrance when he walks into the room. Another trend that is bold and fun– statement shirts may be loud–but they can do all the talking for you.

Palace hoodie $155
Polo Ralph Lauren tee shirt $50
Polo Ralph Lauren shorts $79
Norwood Chapters hat $76
Nautica watch $89
Diadora Heritage sneakers $123

Pastels & Hoodie/Shorts combo – Nick Jonas

If you prefer your attire to be more muted, there is always the option of pastels. The powdery tones may be subdued, but they are just as impactful. There has been a resurgence of men in pastel suits after Jay-Z famously rocked a mauve Frère suit to his 2020 Roc Nation pre-Grammy brunch. A year later, there’s a new king of the pastel suit–Nick Jonas, who recently wore a sea foam green double-breasted suit as he cohosted “The Voice.”

If you’re not into the pastel suit trend, you can still incorporate pastels into the rest of your wardrobe. Another trend is the hoodie and shorts combo. Make them pastel, and you’re covering two trends in one. Double the fun.
