Marie Claire has been sold!! Hearst, which owns Marie Claire, has sold the US version to the UK-based Future Media. Future Media currently owns Marie Claire U.K., Woman & Home, GoodToKnow, and MyImperfectLife.com.
Hearst believes the North American Marie Claire will fair better if owned by single owner. And Future Media has increased UK version of Marie Claire’s readership substantially in both its digital and e-commerce audience. Deborah Chirchella, president of Hearst Magazines, is hoping the same with this acquisition of Marie Claire.
Like many print publications, Marie Claire has gone through significant changes over the past couple of years. Marie Claire’s print issues had been reduced from 11 issues to 7 issues annually.
Chirchella explained that with this acquisition there would be layoffs with sales and marketing staff offered voluntary buyouts. Other staffers may experience layoffs with no severance package.

Afterpay joins NYFW
With the recent announcement of New York Fashion Week (NYFW) going live, there has been a lot of buzz about what that will look like in the age of COVID-19. Who will show live during NYFW’s spring 2022 season, how will the venues protect attendees, and how many attendees will be allowed at said shows? The list of unanswered questions goes on and on.
What has been announced is that NYFW has a new major sponsor. Afterpay (the leaders in buy now, pay later in payment plans) has signed as a new presenting partner for NYFW’s upcoming new season.
Afterpay has signed a multi-year partnership with IMG, the owner of NYFW. And in this new partnership IMG and Afterpay will focus on supporting established and rising fashion designers, as well as US retail and fashion industries.

Bye, bye Giuliana
Giuliana Rancic has been replaced!! “Orange is the New Black” alum Laverne Cox is replacing Rancic as “Live from E!” new red-carpet correspondent.
“Laverne Cox is a risktaker, groundbreaking pioneer, and a fashion tour de force,” Jen Neal, executive vice president of E! News at NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, told The Hollywood Reporter. “As we continue to evolve the way we cover Hollywood’s biggest nights, Laverne’s passion for, and extensive knowledge of, the fashion community resonates with our audience and we look forward to seeing her shine on the other side of the velvet rope.”
The announcement came days after Rancic announced she was retiring from red-carpet coverage. “After 20 fabulous year’s hosting E!’s red carpet, I have decided to step out of my [red-carpet] heels into a new pair of shoes,” Rancic wrote, as reported in theinsider.com. “To my E! family, thank you for allowing me to make my [red-carpet] dreams come true for the past two decades. It’s truly been a highlight of my career and life. To my production team throughout the years, you are simply the best. We have made some beautiful memories together that I will carry with me.”
“For many years I would wake up early on awards show days, get my snacks in place and watch E!’s coverage all day long. I dreamed of walking red carpets,” Cox said in a statement.
“Now, not only have I had several fun and amazing personal red carpet moments, I also get to be a red carpet guide for E!’s discerning audience and chat with my colleagues and folks I deeply admire for these very special events in their lives.”
All the best to Laverne Cox, may she bring her inimitable style to her new job.
