“Fashion Reverie Talks”: Episode 7

Episode 7 of “Fashion Reverie Talks” is a very special episode. Fashion Reverie’s editor-at-large Karyn Collins passed away on October 28. She was so important to Fashion Reverie and got our publication its first interview with ballerina Misty Copeland. We miss her so much and episode 7 of “Fashion Reverie Talks” is dedicated to Karyn Collins.

In this episode we examine how serious the fashion industry is about upcycling. Fashion upcycling is when fashion brands/designer take discarded fabric, embellishments and fixings and created a whole, new garment. The upcycling process is great for the environment and cuts down on the global footprint. This article was co-hosted by Cicily Daniels and penned by associate editor Kristopher Fraser.

For our Fashion News segment co-hosts Carl Ayers, Tijana Ibrahimovic, and Cicily Daniels talked Kanye West conceding the 2020 Presidential election, Supermodel Karlie Kloss’ pregnancy, and Nike layoffs at its headquarters in Portland, Oregon. As always, our Fashion News alerts were presented with charm, humor, and insight.

The last segment of episode was an arts and culture round table. We chose subjects that recently deceased editor-at-large Karyn Collins would have reported on. Co-host Tijana Ibrahimovic gave voice to what American Ballet Theatre (ABT) principal dancer Misty Copeland is doing in this COVID-19 downtime. Copeland has launched a dancer’s relief fund, “Relief for Swans, that helps unemployed dancers. She has also had time to decorate her 3.1 million- dollar Upper Westside apartment. Additionally, ABT soloist Gabe Stone Shayer has partnered with Chanel to produce a mini-documentary series, “Pas de Deux,” that shows dancers collaborating with other creative artists.

Co-host Cicily Daniels talked about the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s new exhibit, About Time: Fashion and Duration. About Time: Fashion and Duration will pair garments at moments in antiquity juxtaposed against modern expressions. The garments will be connected through shape, motif, material, pattern, technique, or decoration.
