Serena Williams is not only a star on the tennis courts—23 Grand Slams—she also makes strong fashion statements that are followed by her admirers. Whether is conquering opponents of the tennis courts, standing up and supporting causes that affect her community or being a strong role model for her daughter and millions of women of color, Serena Williams continues to set a standard of excellence that defies race, gender, and socio-economic backgrounds.
For their spring 2020 ad campaign, Stuart Weitzman looked for such an icon that embodied elements of courage, resilience and hope. These qualities are especially apropos in these challenging times. The Stuart Weitzman 2020 ad campaign reinforces the notion that women possess the innate strength to be symbols of hope for their communities—a message that is especially relevant right now. “Now, more than ever, is a moment to focus on hope and moving forward,” Serena explains. “I want women of every generation to be inspired to do so, one step at a time.”
In addition to the brands spring 2020 campaign, Stuart Weitzman continues its philanthropic relationship with Vital Voices Global Partnership, an international nonprofit dedicated to investing in women leaders who drive global change. Together with Serena Williams, Stuart Weitzman has selected two women leaders—and their organizations focused on lifting up women of color—who have stepped up to support vulnerable communities in the midst of COVID-19.
Gabriela Karefa-Johnson, who styled the spring 2020 campaigns describes the look of the campaign as “classic and refined to elegant and bold to sleek and sexy—all facets that could describe our muse.” The black-and-white campaign images were shot by photographer Ethan James Green.

In describing the reasons, she chose to be a part of this spring 2020 campaign, Serena Williams detailed, “I’ve been wearing [Stuart Weitzman shoes] for probably over a decade now and they’re a real staple in my closet … Most of all… it’s SW and it has my initials.”
