The long wait is over!! Burberry has named Riccardo Tisci, former creative director of Givenchy, as its new chief creative officer. Tisci will replace the departing creative Christopher Bailey as of March 12. When the new appointment was announced market share of Burberry went up 4%.“Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time. His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. [His] creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury,” explained Burberry CEO Marco Gobetti in a fashionnetwork.com recent post.
Tisci added, “I am honoured and delighted to be joining Burberry as its new Chief Creative Officer and reuniting with Marco Gobbetti. I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand.”
Like mother, like daughter
Does success run in the family? Apparently so, if your mom is Cindy Crawford, one of the greatest supermodels of all time, and you inherited her great genetics.
Kaia Gerber has been making a lot of market traction this season, mimicking Jackie O in Moschino’s fall 2018 runway collection. Now, Kaia can add another prize notch to her fashion belt. Kaia is the face of Chanel’s new handbag collection.
Kaia is photographed by the brand’s legendary creative director Karl Lagerfeld reclining on a chaise lounge, showcasing the brand’s iconic bags, including the ‘11.12’ in embroidered tweed and multicolored transparent PVC, the ‘Gabrielle’ and ‘Boy Chanel,’ as well as a vanity case and camera case. This major Chanel campaign is one of many that the 16-year old has racked up since her runway debut in September.
Rita’s new direction
Rita Ora lets no grass grow under her feet. Ora recently announced that she is launching her first fashion line. This new direction for the British actress and singer is a natural progression for Ora in that she has been the face of brands that range from Adidas Originals to DKNY to Roberto Cavalli.
Ora’s new fashion venture, Roara Republic, includes gender-neutral pieces inspired by streetwear trends, the 90’s, and gothic logos.
“I have been working secretly on this for a while with my team. I am so passionate about fashion so it’s such a pleasure and honour for me to be able to express that through my very own collection. It is meant to inspire you to be your best self, your own hero!” said the blond superstar on Twitter.
This streetwear–based collection will be available on March 3 and will range in price from 25 pounds to 55 pounds. Hmm, sounds like an affordable way to get close to Rita Ora!!
Lacoste’s substitution
Change in fashion is inevitable; we all understand that and have come to expect it. However, when Lacoste substitutes its crocodile logo for logos of endangered species, that is something no one expected.
In a limited-edition charity tie-in with Save Our Species conservation group, Lacoste has switched out its iconic green crocodile logo for endangered species logos of the Sumatran tiger, the Javan rhino, and the Cao Vit gibbon on the chest of its classic white polo shirts. Lacoste also used camouflaged images of the endangered species on the last ten looks in the brand’s fall 2018 collection. All but a few of the shirts sold out immediately after Lacoste’s fall 2018 show in Paris at the price of $183 dollars per shirt.
Felipe Oliveira Baptiste spearheaded Lacoste’s design redirection and told AFP, “I don’t like to plaster it everywhere. Either you be very classic with it or very original, and in this case it’s quite original I think.” The traditional green crocodile logo will continue to be featured on the majority of Lacoste’s product.
