John Galliano, former creative director of Christian Dior, has been stripped of his French Legion of Honor award. The Legion of Honor is one of the highest distinctions a civilian can be awarded in France.
Galliano was awarded the Legion of Honor on behalf of his services to French couture in 2009.
After being accused of assault and making anti-Semitic remarks outside a French café last year, Galliano resigned from the House of Dior.
“What he said made him unworthy of wearing this decoration. There are some convictions that aren’t compatible with the award,” states Richard Prasquier, president of CRIF.
