Issey Miyake once said, “the most beautiful and purest fragrance in the world: the scent of water on a woman’s skin.”  Well you cannot get more pure than water and get more fashion-forward than Issey Mikyake. Put those two together, and you have a combination that is always a guaranteed success.

Miyake first fragrance in 1992 was L’Eau d’Issey and it was a ringing triumph. Now, Miyake returns with l’Eau d’Issey Pure, a continuation, and a reimaging of the original l’Eau d’Issey.

“L’Eau d’Issey is what all other perfumes are not. L’Eau d’Issey evokes the genuine simplicity and purity that exist around this idea of water. For L’Eau d’Issey Pure I believe we have captured the most basic image of water, a droplet. The droplet symbolizes the fragrance and becomes the bottle,” explained Todd Bracher, designer of the L’Eau d’Issey Pure bottle.

In this recent incarnation of Miyake’s first fragrance, Miyake injects a wide array of contrasts into L’Eau d’Issey Pure. Incarnated by the salty sea breeze of Maritima combined with Ambergris, L’Eau d’Issey Pure derives from a new aquatic story. Maritima, an exclusive IFF molecule, evokes cool clear waters, while Ambergris, with its mineral and animal inflections, brings sensuality and breadth to the fragrance. A floral bouquet sparkles, as if floating on a wide expanse of sea. Crystalline Lily- of the-Valley responds to the brightness of Orange Blossom. Plunge into their delicate white trail.

Then comes other, denser flowers. Essence of Rose Damascena once again imbibed with the morning dew from when it was picked, brings with it opulent Jasmine in a heady explosion of petals. The ocean crossing continues. In the base notes, the call of Cashmeran rings out, with musky and woody resonance. Pure and powerful, L’Eau d’Issey Pure reaches far-off shores at the touch of a single drop.

Miyake caps off these fragrance combinations with a bottle designed in the shape of a drop of pure water. The conical, slender design evokes the essence of a drop of water that is the core motif of L’Eau d’Issey Pure. And in a market that is oversaturated with fragrances that sometimes don’t make the grade, it is refreshing that Issey Miyake continues to bring consumers a product that reflects the quality and refinement of his garments.

L’Eau d’Issey Pure retails for $108.00 and $88.00 and will be fine retailers in July.
