Special Fashion News Alert: Betsey Keeps Singing and Anna Piaggi Transitions

It aint over til the fat lady sings. And in Betsey Johnson’s case, the rotund woman is still crooning.

Though it looked as though Betsey Johnson was out of the game for the New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2013 season, Betsey Johnson, with the help of the Levy Group, is launching a new affordable dress line that will be in stores in the spring. Johnson will also showcase this new line during the upcoming New York Fashion Week. “We are [pleased] to be working with Betsey on her new dress collection. It was a natural progression to continue into another category,” stated Levy Group’s president Suzy Chin to WWD.

The fashion community was shocked in April when Johnson filed for bankruptcy forcing her to close all of her 63 stores and lay off 350 workers. With the bankruptcy Johnson retained the title of creative director and would continue to design accessories and moderately priced sportswear that is sold is major retail stores like Macy’s.

Johnson’s new collection will include solids, prints and flouncy dresses and will retail between $99 and $249. Keep singing Betsey!!

The Fashion Community Mourns Anna Piaggi

Iconic editor of Vogue Italia, Anna Piaggi passed away in her Milan home on Tuesday. Known for introducing the double page, a two-page collage of text and photos, Piaggi was just as well-known  for her colorful wardrobe as her work at Vogue Italia. According to the Telegraph, Piaggi also contributed to La Settimana Incom, Vanity, Epoca, Linea Italiana, Annabella, Panorama, and L’Espresso.

In 1986 Karl Lagerfeld sketched 10 years of Piaggi’s wardrobe in his fashion journal. And in 2006 London’s Victoria and Albert Museum exhibited thousands of her gowns and shoes.

Anna Piaggi was 81 years old.
