Make the Most Out of Self-Isolation with DIY Beauty Tips

Lindsay Myers

Los Angeles-based, tv personality, Lindsay Myers is all about balancing budget with luxury. “People assume that you need a ton of money to experience everything life has to offer. I have made it my mission to prove them wrong,” explains Myers. Gaining popularity as an “Access Hollywood” regular, as well as working alongside celebrity stylist Brad Goreski on Bravo’s “Brad, Brad World,” while also starring on a solo travel series on katespade.com, Myers knows a thing or two about how to stretch a buck without giving up a thing.

However, with the COVID-19 virus hitting the US hard, many of our regular activities have been halted, leaving us stuck at home. So, it’s no surprise that Myer’s is balancing this “new normal” with some at-home pampering!

Fashion Reverie loves a good DIY scrub or mask and who better to spill some beauty secrets than Myers herself. Keep reading for Myers’ top treatments for smooth skin, soft hair, and beautiful nails (and the best part, she uses products you most likely already have at home!).

Natural Lip Scrub for a Kissable Pout

If in a time crunch, Myers recommends grabbing a pack of sugar for a quick exfoliation. However, this recipe is her favorite trick for “super smooth” lips.

What you’ll need:

1 TSP of Brown Sugar
1 TSP of White Sugar
1 TSP of Honey
1/2 TSP of Olive Oil

Mix all the ingredients in a small container and apply to your lips, store the extra for later use. Myers swears by this method exclaiming, “Trust me, after about 20 seconds your lips will feel amazing.”

Soak-Away-Your-Stress Bath Salts

With COVID-19 virus uncertainty, we’re all looking for a way to de-stress and unwind. You could run out and buy bath salts, but it’s so simple to make them at home. Myers adds essential oils to hers for an ultra-relaxing experience, but if you don’t have any on hand, you can skip them.

What you’ll need:

Coarse Salt

Epsom Salt

Baking Soda

Essential oil

Take 6-part coarse sea salt, 3-part Epsom salt, 1-part baking soda, and just a few drops of essential oil of your choice and mix them together. How easy is that? Myers especially loves this recipe as, “this combo helps sooth the muscles, helps with skin irritation, and softens the skin.”

3-Step Ombre at-Home Manicure

With Myers’ regular nail salon shut down, she finally found a little time to play with the at-home-manicure. “I never go really big or bold with my manicures. But I have the time to figure out how to do it myself, why not!”

This ombre nail looks great and is so easy you may find yourself doing your own nails at home even after all the nail salons open again!

 What you’ll need:

2 Different nail polish colors (preferably one light shade and one darker shade)

1 Clear topcoat nail polish

1 Sponge (you just need a little bit so you can cut off a section from a larger sponge if needed)

1 Sheet of plastic wrap

1 Toothpick

Paint your nails as usual with the lightest color and let them dry fully. Next pour a little of each shade on a piece of plastic wrap side-by-side, so the two colors touch. Then, “take the toothpick and swirl/blend just at the area where the two colors meet,” Myers explains.

The next step is to “take your sponge and dab it directly over this mixture and then dab the sponge directly on your nail.” Once you’ve applied this technique to all your fingernails, Myers shares that if you want a stronger color, you can go back over the nails once the first coat is completely dry. Finish the look with a swipe of the topcoat polish and marvel at your handiwork.

Transformative Hair Mask

“It is SO easy to make a simple hair mask with everyday things in our kitchen. Why don’t we do it more? Maybe now we will,” shares Myers who doesn’t just have one great hair mask, but two!

Option 1, ideal for all hair types:

What you’ll need:

1 Avocado

1 TBSP of Honey

To create this mask, scoop out half an avocado and mix it with the honey. Apply this mixture to your strands and leave it on for 20 minutes. Then rinse it off for smooth, soft locks.

Option 2, ideal for extremely dry hair:

What you’ll need:

2 Eggs

3 TBSP Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Mix 2 eggs with 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and apply to hair. Leave this on for 20 minutes and rinse it off for healthier looking hair.

Easy at Home Facial

Myers is an avid spa goer looking for better skin. “I have grown to love my facials, but they are expensive and right now we just can’t get them. Why not learn how to do it yourself?” Now is the perfect time to pamper yourself and your skin.

What you’ll need:

2 Teabags of Chamomile Tea

1 TBSP of Honey

1 TBSP of Nutritional Yeast

Brew one cup of the tea with both tea bags and let it cool. While the tea is cooling, stir together the honey and nutritional yeast in a small bowl.

Myers explains to slowly add the tea into honey and yeast mixture. “Add just enough of the tea to the bowl to make a paste. You want to be able to spread it on your face, but not be watery.” Leave the mixture on your face for 20 minutes and take this time to clear your mind and relax. Wash off the mixture smooth to reveal restored skin.

Even if you’re stuck inside, you can still spoil yourself with these budget friendly beauty treatments. Let us know if you’ve tried any of Myers’ DIY recipes or some of your own favorite beauty concoctions!

Healthier Skin Thanks to Quarantining Your Makeup

Excessive makeup has been all the rage these past few years. With the rise of social media came tutorial after tutorial on heavy makeup looks (including the ever-popular contouring ala Kim Kardashian). The issue is, all those products can clog pours, result in breakouts and damage the appearance of your skin.

That said, too much foundation is not the only issue our skin is facing during this coronavirus lockdown. All those squirts of hand sanitizer and operating-room-worthy handwashing routines can leave your skin dry and itchy.

To dig in deep and see how we can really improve the appearance and health of our skin during these makeup free days, Fashion Reverie caught up with holistic esthetician, Stephanie Smith, owner of Stephanie Smith Skincare in Franklin, TN and Suki Skincare partner.

In a time of social distancing, “allowing the skin to take a break from pollution and makeup is priceless. The cells in the skin have [ a big job of] repairing themselves, and this is much easier to do if they are not weighed down by artificial colors, and ingredients that clog the pores,” Smith explains. “Picture your skin cells wearing heavy Hazmat suits.”

Mineral makeup is the exception, but even then, it’s important to give your skin time to rest. Additionally, most of us are under quite a bit of stress—whether that’s from financial worries to helping take care of your family. Stress has perverse effects on all our organs, so it’s no surprise it also negatively effects our skin. Smith explains, “[stress] hampers the body’s ability to repair itself, leading to imbalance, sensitivity and breakouts.”

While you use this time to step away from the makeup, hair repair and take of your skin further, Smith shares her seven top tips for beautiful skin that you can practice now while stuck at home, or any time.

  1. Simplify your Routine

I always recommend that if my clients are experiencing stressful times, such as transitional changes in their life, it’s a good idea to simplify their skin routine. Perhaps, your normal routine is five steps, that may be too much to maintain under the circumstances.

  1. Use Cosmeceutical Grade Multi-taskers

One way to do that is with multitasking products that contain “cosmeceutical”Ingredients. (Cosmeceuticals contain concentrated, active ingredients that are able to penetrate the layers of the dermis, to effectively change the skin.) Examples of some multi-tasking products include cleansers and toners that also exfoliate, facial oils that can also be used as a cleanser and eyebrow growth serum, and masques that hydrate and reduce the appearance of pores while feeding the skin nutrients.

Image courtesy of K3 Media Collective

  1. Sleep in it

What’s fabulous is to find a skincare masque that you can sleep in, which behaves like an exfoliant, serum, and night cream in one.

You wake up, shower it off, and your skin looks like you’ve been to the spa. Masques have such concentrated ingredients that they often are excellent alternatives to a night cream. I lazily applied the Moisture Rich Brightening Masque from Suki Skincare last night, fell asleep, and couldn’t believe how hydrated and glowy my skin looked this morning.

  1. Keep an Eye on Skin Health

During this time of few visits to the doctor, don’t forget to pay attention to new spots or moles on the skin that are changing, or are sensitive to the touch, both of which can be signs of skin cancer (I’ve had it twice).

If you’re not sure if a spot is changing, take a picture with a smartphone, or have a friend [who’s quarantining with you] take one, and then compare it to a picture taken each week. This makes it very easy to see changes, since you can enlarge the photos on your camera. If you are concerned, send the photo to your esthetician, (we’re trained to screen for skin cancer!) or a doctor.

  1. Use Facial Oils to Protect the Face

If you are a healthcare worker, and are experiencing inflamed, sensitive skin due to wearing a masque, apply a facial oil, and then blot with a towel before you put one on. The oil will soothe and protect the skin, and guard against loss of moisture, which leads to cracks and dryness on the skin’s surface.

Using an oil to cleanse your face is also a relief at the end of the day. A good facial oil blend will feature oils that won’t clog the pores, such as jojoba, hemp, and sunflower. It can also contain essential oils to balance and heal the skin, such as lavender and chamomile which are soothing.

  1. Use Body Oils to Protect the Body

If your hands are in a state of emergency from all of the washing and hand sanitizer, keep a body oil by the sink and apply it to wet hands after washing a few times a day. It will protect the skin and give it the nutrients it needs to heal.

The body can tolerate heavier oils which stay on the surface as a barrier and can also be used for massage. Good choices include sweet almond, olive, carrot seed, avocado, and wheat germ.

  1. Wash Your Face Well

If we’re washing our hands for 20 seconds—that’s two rounds of the “Happy Birthday” song—wash your face for at least that long as well, to effectively remove germs!

Following these steps will help speed up skin recovering and keep you healthy and looking great! “There is definitely a learning curve to adapting to our ‘new normal,’” Smith shares. “To put things into perspective, I like to think of it this way: Beautiful skin is like toilet paper. Everyone wants it, but the world won’t end if you have to improvise.”

Use This Pandemic Downtime to Detox Your Hair

We have always known that excessive heat and daily styling is bad for hair. So, while stuck inside due to the COVID-19 pandemic, take this time to detox from everyday essential styling in favor for going au natural.

According to Nicki Bianco, Creative Director at Saints & Sinners, “This has been a much- needed rest and detox for most people’s overworked strands. The lack of hair coloring, chemical services, heat styling, and environmental damage will surely have restorative effects. Chemical services and hot tools can strip the hair of protein and moisture, making the hair dry, brittle and fragile.”

Sal Misseri, owner of Reverie Salon adds that, “one thing people may not even realize is that environmental factors play a big part in the health of your hair and skin. There are so many toxins and pollutants in the air especially in a big city, and all of that can build up on the hair.”

If you haven’t already, take a break from the heat

“Staying away from heat styling gives your hair cuticles a chance to calm down and heal without being blasted daily by heat and styling tools,” shares Andrea Jaclyn, stylist at BOMANE Salon in Los Angeles. Noting that for people with wavy hair, thanks to putting down the blow dryer/hair straightener/ curling iron, you’ll “notice them becoming more uniform and shinier.”

Misseri also mentions that pre-coronavirus quarantine, most people were rushing in the mornings and would, “… turn the heat up on their hot tools and over style the top layer, and front of the hair. Keeping heat styling to twice a week can show vast improvements to the cuticle of the hair. If you choose to heat style, use a heat protectant, like Davines’ MELU Hair Shield.”

But more and more people have swapped not just their beauty routine, but their routines in general. Which made us wonder if there were any negatives to this new normal?

Image courtesy of davines.com and healthcentral.com

Wash your hair a little less often

“My downfall has been washing every day, since I’ve had time for at home workouts,” shares Jaclyn. “You must at least rinse the scalp after excessive sweating as the hormones released can cause thinning. A few days in I realized I had not even let it dry completely before it was wet again. The hair is weak when wet. You want to make sure you’re not constantly keeping it in a hair mask or wet all the time. It can cause breakage or a weakened cuticle.” Jaclyn recommends keeping your scalp and hair clean with Davines’ SOLU shampoo, stating that “it cleans beautifully and leaves hair silky unlike any other “detox, clarifying” shampoo, plus it is color safe.”

But it’s not just people sweating out the cabin fever, Misseri adds that a lot of the population is on a regular basis “over washing” their hair causing the scalp to dry out. “[which] in turn causing overactive oil production in order to create balance. Many people then see “greasy” hair and begin a vicious over washing cycle.” Suggesting that if you’re not already doing it, this is the perfect opportunity to give your hair a break, washing every other day or even every two days.

“… In fact, the less frequently you wash your hair the better, our natural oils from our scalp are full of benefits for our strands,” shares Bianco.   “Products like Saints & Sinners Velvet Divine Moisture Shampoo actually contain anti-friction ingredients so when you do shampoo, there is no fraying of the hair fiber and strands are protected.”

Detox, don’t neglect

“I could see the stress of this situation leaving a lot of people in a “what is the point” kind of mood.” Misseri shares. Which could cause people to not wash their hair enough or leave it unbrushed in a ponytail or top knot. But Misseri warns that “build-up of oil/sebum can cause clogged pores and result in lack of hair growth.”

Also, it’s so important to brush your hair. “Brushing the scalp and hair is a really great way to stimulate hair growth and distribute those necessary oils.” Misseri warns that leaving your hair in a hat or ponytail can also cause damage, “it’s important to have a ponytail holder that isn’t too tight or rough and constantly in the same spot which would cause breakage. Wearing a hat too often will not allow the scalp to breathe.”

And you might want to swap your pillowcase too!  “People are also likely staying in bed longer, and rough cotton pillowcases can dry out the hair and skin and cause hair to tangle and lock.” Misseri suggests a silk pillowcase to keep your tresses in tip top shape.

Image courtesy of K3 Media Collective

Want to speed up the detoxing process? Try a hair mask

To make the most of your beauty revive, Bianco recommends brushing through your hair with a soft bristle brush to “… pull down the oils from your scalp onto the rest of your hair strands.” Also stating how helpful a hair mask can be recommending Saints & Sinners Velvet Divine Hair Masque to help restore hair, which you can even leave on as you sleep.

Misseri uses Davines’ Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Mask or The Quick Fix Circle.

Recommending that you use a wide tooth comb with the mask on to distribute the mask evenly while detangling. But if you want something you can make at home, Misseri recommends a mixture of egg, avocado, and coconut/olive oil to restore moisture.

Walking out of the quarantine with healthier hair is as easy as washing it less, staying away from unnecessary heat, brushing it out, and avoiding extra breakage. Once you see the results, you might want to give your normal hair routine a “detox” a few times a year!

Puffy eyes instantly make you look tired, and yes, older too! The best way to get rid of eye puffiness is by cooling the eye area, I’m sure if you haven’t tried it at home you’ve seen spa ads with women with cucumbers over their eyes. Cucumbers are a great trick as they have anti-inflammatory effects which reduces puffiness and thanks to being made up mostly of water, they cool the temperature around the eyes to reduce swelling. However, if you don’t have any on hand, or are always running out the door, we’ve found another solution.

Milk’s formula is ultra-smooth and lightweight. Benefit’s is more of a full coverage concealer and therefore a slightly thicker formula. but still very light. And Fashion Reverie’s staff loves the adorable pencil eraser packaging!

For extra convenience, Fashion Reverie loves Stila Stay All Day Cover Powder Finish Foundation and Cream Concealer. In the lid is a powerful concealer to hide those under eye circles and then the foundation stick to blend everything together, all in one tiny package.

For Spring 2020, Play Up Your Streetwear Beauty

Luxury streetwear is having a major fashion moment right now. According to the Streetwear Impact Report produced by HypeBeast and Strategy& Part of the PWC network, “Streetwear emerged as an antidote to wider fashion trends, stemming from countercultures like skate, surf, and hip-hop.”

However, in recent years streetwear has taken over the fashion scene and major labels have joined in on the movement. Clothing isn’t the only part of the fashion industry having a bit of fun—beauty is also taking notes from this urban movement—with eyeliners in various colors and shapes that go against traditional beauty standards.

Match your beauty look to your outfit or let it provide the perfect contrast. A little eyeliner can easily take your favorite streetwear styles to a new level with a dash of luxury and a nod to streetwear’s origins.

Make it Pop in Neon

Your favorite cat eye gets a bright spring upgrade that can stand up to the colorful streetwear movement, inspired by Helmut Lang. These florescent highlighter shades add a focal point to a neutral look and compliment a similar hue.

For a bold look of your own that’s anything but basic, we recommend Yves Saint Laurent Full Eyeliner Shocking in Majorelle Blue. This vibrant shade goes on smoothly and doesn’t rub off. Perfect for spring or anytime you want to shake things up a little.

A touch of neon in the inner corner of your eye is another excellent way to look fresh this season, as models did at Jonathan Cohen or try something more untraditional like makeup artists created at Peter Pilotto. After all, when it’s this easy to make an impact, why wouldn’t you mix it up and swap your black liner for a more eye-catching shade?

Images courtesy of elitedaily/Yuchen Liao/Getty Images and stila.com

Bright Whites

With a mod feel, stark white can be refreshing and downright inspiring. To get the look, try a liquid liner that really stays put. You also want to look for one that is highly opaque for a strong white line across your lids.

Fashion Reverie loves Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Snow for a look that’s clean and fresh and doesn’t smudge. It’s also one of the brightest shades of white we’ve tried, which is why it gives off a strong impact on all skin tones, even if you’re on the paler side.

To make the white really pop, add an extra swipe of mascara. Benefit’s They’re Real in jet black provides a wonderful contrast to a white lined lid in its ultra-dark lengthening formula. Or check out Clarins’ Wonder Perfect Mascara 4D for extra volume, definition, and curl.

Match Your Stripes

Tie your look together by matching the colors on your kicks with your eyelids just as makeup artist Fatima Thomas did for streetwear brand Chromat’s recent fashion show.

Thomas began by mapping out the black wing on the model with MAC’s Brushstroke Liner. However, if drawing the perfect black wing is something you have yet to master, (it can take a little practice!) Fashion Reverie recommends Kaja’s Wink Stamp. Kaja’s stamp set consists of a two-sided black winged stamp pen and an eyeliner pen.

Images courtesy of Kaja

Start by lining up the stamp with the corner of your eye and pressing down lightly; then connect the wing with your lash line with the eyeliner pen. This is ideal for anyone who struggles with keeping the wings even on both eyes!

Images courtesy of Kesha Rose

Next Thomas created those bright stripes with MAC’s Chromaline in bright hues like Primary Yellow and Hi-Def Cyan. However, if you’re feeling a hint of shimmer, Kesha Rose’s Dual-Ended Liquid Eyeliner Dou is another gorgeous option. The jumbo pens make precision lining like this a breeze and give you a hint of shimmer in shades of orange, blue, and gold with maximum staying power.

Let Your Liner Float

Floating liner is whimsical and unexpected. Iconic makeup artist Pat McGrath knows that self-expression doesn’t have to play by anyone else’s rules as demonstrated by the floating eyeliner, a look she created.

Images courtesy of sephora.com and humbeandrich.com

Design your own floating look with graphic lines or soft shapes. Whether you go a bit edgier or round it out, these shapes will make your streetwear style really standout. Pat McGrath’s Labs PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil is ideal for creating unexpected, off-the-lash-line shapes and sticking it to the typical beauty guides!

No matter if your style is a bit comfier and more casual or structured and sexy, a flick of eyeliner can really ramp up your beauty game!

Well it’s 2020. Fashion Reverie hopes everyone had a wonderful holiday season, but now it’s time to settle in for what some forecasters are predicting to be a brutal winter. And the harsh winter season goes beyond the chilly temperatures and bad weather. Harsh, dry winter weather can do havoc on your skin, and some kinds of heating can suck the moisture out the air to the point where some people will become susceptible to nosebleeds. Worse than a bloody nose, the arid conditions can result in dull, lifeless skin!

Fashion Reverie refuses to let that happen to you. We have curated a plethora of products to make your skin glow and dewy soft in 2020!

Everydaze Eye Patches
These eye patches are perfect for giving you lustrous vibrant skin. Skin around the eyes is particularly delicate and quick to show the stresses of dry air. These eye patches will bring you back to life.

Diamond Drop Hydrogel Patches
These eye patches utilize vitamin B3 and niacinamide which evens out skin tone, reduces discoloration, minimizes fine lines, and deeply hydrates skin. They also contain arbutin which has antioxidant properties that reduces uneven skin tone for a brighter complexion. Diamond powder brightens your skin and caffeine reduces puffiness.

Gold Charcoal Hydro Get Patches
Looking to rewind the years? Enriched with age-rewinding gold, detoxifying charcoal powder and skin-lifting adenosine, these eye patches will tighten and lift the skin. Charcoal powder detoxifies the weak and thin skin layer around the eyes. Seawater-derived fermented ingredients repairs and rejuvenates the skin.

After your normal skin care routine, but before your regular moisturizer place patches under eyes using tweezers (patches are delicate). Leave them there for 20 minutes (for extra relief from early morning puffiness put patches in the refrigerator).

Beekman 1802
Beekman 1802 founders Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer Purcell began their company almost by accident when their high fat goat milk soap was created as a Christmas gift for Martha Stewart (True story! read Josh’s hilarious New York Times bestseller “A Bucolic Plague” for the details.) Since that time, the brand has grown by leaps and bounds including cheese, ice cream, apparel, home accessories, and skincare.

Their moisturizing goat milk soap is perfect for winter. They help keep your skin hydrated while showering. Choose lukewarm water instead of hot for baths and showers and if possible try to avoid bathing daily opting for every other day to avoid drying out skin.

Beekman 1802 Triple Milk Starter kit is perfect for keeping winter skin exfoliated and hydrated. A combination of cow, goat, and coconut milk is the secret. (Cleopatra used to bathe in milk for its exfoliating properties centuries before there was a word for it.)

Use the cleanser to wipe away grime and oil. Exfoliate with the AHA, BHA-based Milk Peel. Massage a teaspoon sized amount over clean face with a cotton pad. Leave on for up to 10 minutes or until skin tingles. (Do not exceed 10 minutes.) Rinse with warm water and moisturize with Beekman 1802’s Illumination Skin Milk for dewy lustrous skin.

Foundation
Applying makeup to dry skin can be uncomfortable. Give your face a hydrated glow with these foundations.

Dr. Jen’s House of Beauty
Showering daily in winter can result in dry skin. One way to keep your skin hydrated is with body butters. Some of the best body butters available are from Dr. Jen’s House of Beauty. The rich cream smells amazing.

Dr. Jen’s House of Beauty—also comes in unscented—is cruelty free and doesn’t contain harmful chemicals. If you need even more hydration, you can choose Super Luxe Body Balm. If worse comes to worse and you develop cracks in your super dry skin, try Fissure King high intensity moisture cream. The combination of shea butter, aloe, centella asiatica extract, and sea buckthorn berry oil soothe and moisturizes painful cracked skin. For optimum healing slather a thick layer on your hands/feet at night, don thick socks/gloves and let the cream work its magic overnight!

Color The World lipsticks
Many people forgo lip color all together during winter months due to having dry chapped lips, sticking to transparent lip balms. But thanks to Color the World you don’t have to. Color the World lipsticks are specifically designed for delicate skin around the mouth for women of a certain age.

Lines around the mouth is an reveals age, and having lipstick bleed into those wrinkles can be awful. Color the World lipsticks are moisturizing, long lasting and will not bleed or feather into creases! Need more? With a purchase of every lipstick or treatment you are donating to charity. Each shade comes with its own cause. Find a flattering pink and help save a dog. Pick a fantastic red and help an African school buy supplies. Plus their uniquely decorated cases mean never squinting at tiny printing at the bottom of tubes or grabbing the wrong lipstick again!

Dove Bath Bombs
Looking to relax in a nice warm (not hot!) bath this winter? Well, it’s usually not a good idea as baths can make your skin so dry it will develop a British accent. One way to not only take a relaxing bath and nourish your skin is to use bath bombs. (One challenge, bath bombs are shockingly expensive.) Dove has solved that problem with their affordably priced bath bombs.

If you’re lucky (or unlucky) enough (depends how you look at it!) to live in a location with four seasons and haven’t adapted your beauty routine, what are you waiting for? The summer heat and strong rays of the sun bring a myriad of beauty issues to your skin and hair.  However, nothing toys with our get-ready-for-a-night beauty regime more than the drying harsh weather of winter.

While you can’t prevent the beating your skin, hair, and nails take during the coldest months of the year, you can try Fashion Reverie’s favorite hacks and tricks approved by beauticians and estheticians to be ready for anything!

Save your lips!

No amount of lipstick or expensive lip glosses can truly hide the damage of dry, cracked lips.  For a truly kissable pout, keep those babies hydrated all year long, paying special attention as the seasons start to change.

So, put down the drying matte lipsticks and focus on color that’s also moisturizing.  For the harshest weather forecasts, Fashion Reverie recommends Clarins Lip Comfort Oil.  This little tube has become a beauty staple for December through February, providing a touch of color with satisfying pure plant oils (such as organic Jojoba and Hazelnut) and the moisture our lips are craving!

Oh, and the best part?  The high-shine finish isn’t the slightest bit sticky!  So, even if a wintery breeze blows your hair onto your face, you don’t need to worry about those strands sticking.

Didn’t have time for a manicure?  You can still look prim and polished by keeping up with your cuticles!

Ragged, unkempt cuticles instantly make you look less put together.  Even if you didn’t have time to go to your favorite salon, keeping your cuticles hydrated is a quick and easy way to make sure clean, unpolished nails are date night worthy!

According to Jin Soon Choi, founder of the popular brand of nail varnishes, Jin Soon, cuticle oil is a must!  Particularly in wintertime. Choi believes so much in the importance of keeping your cuticles hydrated that she’s been known to massage cuticle oil into her interviewers’ hands backstage at Fashion Week during the usual February snowstorms.  (Thanks again Jin!)

Minimize your skincare routine for a glowy complexion

OK, it sounds counterintuitive, but what good are a ton of cleansers, toners, and creams if you don’t have the time to apply them all?  Instead opt for one powerhouse product that can do it all. One that you’ll use every night.

Noomi Stockholm’s Birch Tech Hybrid is a 2-in-1 cream and serum designed to keep your skin hydrated, fresh and looking youthful while shielding your skin from environmental stress.  Founder Tindra Eriksson, a certified nurse and trained esthetician who grew up with natural remedies saw a real need in the market for an organic skincare product that was made with 100% organic ingredients.

Eriksson’s deep knowledge about Scandinavian flora and the effects it has on the skin allowed her to develop a product in which every single ingredient has a purpose and is scientifically maximized for potency.  (Hailing from Sweden, you can bet she knows a thing or two about how to deal with cold weather!)

Birch Tech Hybrid features Nordic Birch sap (for resilient skin), Chaga (for protection against aging free radicals and stress), Wild Swedish Lingonberry (for hydration and improving skin’s elasticity and tone), Cloudberry and Hyaluronic acid (for hydration and keeping skin plump), Vitamin C+ E (for radiance and brightness), Time-Released Retinol (to rewind wrinkles and keep skin firmer, smoother and more evenly toned), and Nordic Bilberry (ro reverse signs of aging) and others.

Add a little flush

In the wintertime complexions can get a little … ghostly.  If you’re not heading somewhere tropical or one to fake bake with self-tanners or bronzers, a little rosy color on your cheeks can do wonders.

Not only does a flush of pink look natural and healthy, as if you just took a brisk jog outside, but it’s one of the oldest tricks in the book.  Guerlain’s Rose Aux Joues adds a delicate glow for an authentic hint of color.

Fashion Reverie’s 2019 New Year’s Eve Beauty Roundup

2019 is coming to an end; bring on 2020! There’s nothing quite as exciting as New Year’s Eve (but do not go to Times Square it’s a nightmare). One of the most fun things about New Year’s Eve is that it’s a night where you pull out all the stops. It’s glitz, it’s glam. It’s a night where anything goes.

Fashion Reverie has gathered some fantastic beauty looks for you to try. Don’t be afraid to take chances! We’re saying goodbye to an entire decade.

Nails

If there is ever a time to experiment with a new nail polish it’s New Year’s Eve. Famed beauty Youtuber Kathleen Lights has recently released Lights Lacquer. Lights Lacquer is a quality, highly pigmented formula of nail polish, vegan and cruelty free that glides on smoothly, for a beautiful, long-wear finish that dries within minutes. The colors are inspired by Kathleen’s favorite gemstones.

Brows

Ever consider trying to go for the full Cara Delevingne eyebrows?  You can buy eyebrow kits in any drug store or you can use an ordinary eyebrow pencil that matched your hair color. Just remember to use a light touch. It’s difficult to remove if you get too heavy handed. Also do it BEFORE you apply your foundation. If you make a mistake, you’ll have to start all over.

Bold eye makeup

Break out your false lashes and liquid liner New Year’s Eve is a time to go full drag queen. Pick up some false lashes—don’t forget lash glue—and liquid liner. (KISS’ Lash Couture Triple Push Up lashes it a great option. You can purchase at any Ulta Beauty store and they are a great bargain at $6.99.)

Liquid liner can be tricky to apply. You’ll need a steady hand. Add some gold eyeshadow and burgundy lipstick and you’re look will be party ready.

ADD SOME SPARKLE!

You’re ringing in the New Year and it’s time to shine!  A fun and easy way to add some sparkle is with a headband. Like Taylor Swift you can wear a sparkly headband, just be careful with which on you select. Make sure it’s not too heavy and it doesn’t pinch, otherwise you’ll wind up ditching it within an hour. (Target has a variety of glitter headbands that will fit the bill.)

You may not have access to the fabulous jewels Beyoncé flaunts, but you can find some amazing fakes for a modest investment. Just make sure it’s not too heavy or it will be uncomfortable.

Looking for some sparkly red lips? Don’t just line your lips, use the pencil to fill in the entire lip. It will create a foundation that will hold color. After you apply a red lipstick, apply Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue. Yes, it’s meant for eyeshadow but there is no rule you can’t use it on your lips.  Apply using a stiff brush. Then apply fine cosmetic glitter. It will stay all night.

Skincare

One unfortunate side effect of imbibing quality bubbly is it can be rough on the skin. Fashion Reverie recommends High Beauty, expertly formulated skincare that delivers cannabis sativa seed oil in combination with certified organic plant oils, high-potency antioxidants and pure plant essential oils for healthy, beautiful skin.

Their high value skin kit is the perfect introduction to their products. It features their cannabis cleansing foam, cannabis facial moisturizer and an adorable pink scrunchie to keep your hair of your face while washing.

Looking for a quick way to depuff your eyes New Year’s Day after a few too many toasts? High Beauty’s High Eye-Q gel provides a cooling effect reducing puffiness around the eyes, as well as smoothing any fine lines while providing hydration for healthy beautiful skin.
