At 40, Supermodel Kate Moss still has a banging body. And she’s not afraid to show it off, as evidenced in the November cover of W Magazine where she is topless with six other models.

Looking ageless and particularly svelte, Moss also details some of her beauty and fitness secrets on W Magaine’s website. “Born Beautiful” is the theme of W Magazine’s November issue and Kate Moss definitely fits the bill.

Au Revoir Oscar

Iconic fashion designer Oscar de la Renta passed away Monday morning.

Born into a prominent Dominican family, Oscar de la Renta studied art in Spain, later switching to fashion working along side Cristobal Balenciaga. De la Renta came to prominence in the 1960s by dressing First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, and establishing his business in NYC in 1965.

Known for creating very feminine silhouettes of full skirts and cinched in waist, most recently de la Renta designed the wedding dress for Anal Clooney for her marriage to Oscar-winning actor George Clooney. “George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress,” Amal Clooney told Vogue magazine.

“So sad for the loss of this legend. Oscar de la Renta, thank you for all the beauty and inspiration you shared with us,” tweeted Nina Garcia, the Marie Claire creative director and judge on TV’s fashion designer competition “Project Runway.”

Due to his ongoing battle with cancer, it was recently announced that Nina Ricci’s artistic director, Peter Copping would join de la Renta as creative director in early November, working alongside the esteemed de la Renta.

“Our industry has not always done the best job when it comes to changes in design leadership,” de la Renta said in a statement on Copping’s appointment. “My hope is that, in leading this selection, and actively participating in the transition, I can ensure the right design future for our company and brand.”

Oscar de la Renta is survived by his wife, Annette. He was 82 years old.

Tyra’s Empire

If “America’s Next Top Model” (AMTM) and a New York Times Bestseller were not enough, Tyra Banks, supermodel-cum-media mogul, has expanded into the beauty industry with the launch of her makeup line, TYRA.

“I wanted to make a makeup line because of my personal story,” the 40-year-old Banks told the Daily News. “Believe it or not, I don’t wake up looking like a supermodel,” she continued. “My beauty is enhanced by things in a bottle … Makeup is the great equalizer.”

“I didn’t want to do just a mascara or any blush,” Banks told the Daily News. “We’re obsessed with being first, unique or best. All of our products took a long time to develop …”

Seems like your time at Harvard Business School was well spent, Miss Tyra.

Brooke and MAC

It is seems to be all about MAC this week in fashion. So from Rihanna Fashion Reverie moves on to Brooke Shields new creative collaboration with MAC Cosmetics.

“There’s this little place I go to get coffee after I drop my kids [daughters Rowan, 11, and Grier, 8] off for school and after a yoga or spin class, where I think no one will see me without makeup,” she said with a laugh. “Of course, who do I run into but James [Gager, MAC’s senior vice president and creative director], Mr. MAC? After we talked a few times, he approached me about the next Icon line and asked if I would consider designing it with them,”
explain Shields in WWD.com.

Shields collaboration with MAC is a part of the brand’s  “Icon Collection” with prices ranging from $17 for a clear brow gel to a 16-shade eye shadow palette at $85. And those fashionistas who want Brooke Shields famous thick eyebrows their will be a brow liner that gives you that effect.

“I’m so used to having my makeup done by someone else—this was really my first time to delve in personally, rather than it being a mask that’s put on for a certain photo shoot. And so many times you get asked to ‘create’ something, but it ends up being ‘put your face on this.’ I got to run with this, and I loved every detail of it. I loved being a part of the process and having my taste incorporated into it. It’s not a frivolous process. There is real attention paid to quality and I’ve been spoiled by the people I got to work with and the freedom I was able to have. That invests you [in the project.]”

Fashion News Extra: Misty Scores Another One

Competition between women’s active wear is fierce with just a few brands taking the lion share of the market.  Under Armour, known mostly for its tight tees on the burly physique of linebackers has come up with a 15 million dollar ad campaign that just might lure consumers away from mega women’s active wear brands like Nike, Athleta, Lululemon, and Hanes.

With its new ad campaign “I Will What I Want,” Under Armour is attempting to rebrand itself as an active wear company that supports and empowers athletic women, ranging from soccer players to yoga enthusiasts to even sleek, regal ballerinas. Enter American Ballet Theater soloist Misty Copeland.

In the past couple of years Misty Copeland has accomplished some noteworthy feats. From her New York Times bestseller, Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina to editorial spreads in Vogue Italia to principal roles in Coppelia, La Bayadere, Firebird, Duo Concertant, and Manon. And over the years Copeland has racked up a wide range of product endorsements from dance footwear staples Sansha, Capezio, and Block to Lavazza Coffee, Dr. Pepper, Blackberry, Payless, and Proactiv Solutions.

Still, you might ask why Misty Copeland for Under Armour? “It was a deliberate choice to feature Misty as someone who bucks the conventional definition of athlete and ushers in a new idea of what it means to be an athlete for Under Armour women,” says Leanne Fremar, the executive director of the women’s division at Under Armour in time.com. And also unlike the dated image of ballerina as an ethereal and other worldly creature, Misty Copeland is forging a new projection of ballerina as relatable, accessible, and above all, athletic.

“It’s important to show athletic women, and the broader public, that both inner and outer strength is something that should be celebrated,” Copeland says in a time.com article about dispelling misconceptions about the ideal ballet body. “I’m grateful for the opportunity Under Armour has given me to show people the intense training and dedication that goes into ballet.”

Macy’s “shop-and-frisk” backfires

Macy’s Inc., the city of New York, and Rob Brown of HBO’s “Treme” have settled a federal discrimination lawsuit that was a part of a “shop-and-frisk” controversy over racial profiling in NYC.

In November of 2013, Rob Brown sued Macy’s Inc. and the city of New York after being handcuffed by three men he believed to be undercover policemen after he purchased a $1,300 gold Movado watch for his mother in June of the same year. The alleged policemen accused him of credit card fraud, paraded the handcuffed actor through the store and keep him in a detainment cell where they mocked him for over an hour.

Brown sued for false imprisonment, assault and battery, negligent hiring and civil rights violations and was seeking unspecified money damages. “Our company strictly prohibits discrimination of any kind and has zero tolerance for racial profiling,” Macy’s said in a statement.

On last Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Lorna Schofield dismissed the case due a settlement in principle between parties. The state attorney general has launched an investigation into similar cases of “shop-and-frisk” in Barney’s, Macy’s and other NYC retailers.

Will Naomi Campbell have to hit the road? Well, it seems the British version of “The Face” may have had the wind pulled out from under the show when Sky Living cancelled the upcoming season.

The Face was a brilliant show, which I am very proud of, but as is sometimes the case we have to make difficult decisions and so it is with regret that I confirm it won’t be returning for a second series,” Antonia Hurford-Jones, director of Sky Living, said today. “I’d like to take this opportunity thank Naomi and all those involved in making the show, and assure Sky Living customers I remain committed to bringing them the very best in new US and UK entertainment.”

Now, the prevailing question is if cancellation in the US is pending? Hmm, time will tell!!
