Kim is not the only member of the Kardashian clan to pose nude. Add sister Kourtney to the list.

Perhaps, as way to purge herself of a nine-year tumultuous marriage Kourtney has been posed for Vanity Fair. This is the second time around for Kourtney. She posed nude for Dujour magazine in 2014.

Brian Bowen Smith photographed the nude images of Kourtney Kardashian for a series called “Metallic Life.” “Metallic Life” will be on display at the De Re Gallery in Los Angeles from October 22–November 19.

Rick Owens doubles up in Paris

Leave it to Rick Owens to create a spectacle during Paris Fashion Week. The enfant terrible of the fashion industry—Jeremy Scott once owned that title but has moved on to a more slightly subdued design aesthetic—created a sensation during Paris Fashion Week by having models come out in twos.

A model on the runway in coupled twosomes isn’t new runway choreography.  However, Rick Owens’ version of coupling is acrobats and gymnasts literally cradling, supporting, and carrying the models in a variety of positions.

This doubling up of limbs or “women carrying women,” as Owens called it, was a disturbing introduction to Owens’s spring 2016 collection.  However, after the initial shock of this spectacle, the audience at the Palais de Tokyo could settle down to Owens’ usual parade of outré silhouettes and design construction.

Escada_01

Luxury layoffs

Escada, the Munich-based luxury brand, plans to cut 200 jobs in an effort to remain competitive. Most of the layoffs will be at its Ascheim headquarters near Munich. In recent months Escada has seen a major downturn in sales in China and Russia.

Though Escada had been at the top on the heap of luxury brands a decade ago, in 2009 the once sought-after brand filed for bankruptcy. Indian businesswoman Megha Mittel later acquired the struggling brand. Glen McMahon stepped down as chief executive in August after only seven months on the job. He was replaced by interim CEO Jorg Wahlers.

Bag infringement

H&M, the Swedish fashion megabrand, is suing American megastore Forever 21 over copyright infringement, trade dress infringement, false dress designation of origin and unfair competition all for H&M’s ‘Beach Please’ tote bag. As reported in fashionmag.com, the beach bag in question began being sold in H&M stores and online in April 2014 with H&M filing copyright papers to federally register the bag effective in June of the same year.

Forever 21 began manufacturing and selling a similar bag soon after. H&M is demanding that Forever 21 permanently cease manufacturing, marketing and selling its version of the ‘Beach Please’ tote and to pay its profits from the bags to H&M.

Arab Fashion Week Debuts

The inaugural season of Arab Fashion Week will take place from October 30–November 2 in Dubai. Organized by the Arab Fashion Council, the Dubai-based association representing 22 Arab countries from Morocco to Lebanon, Arab Fashion Week will feature mostly Arab designers, with a smattering of some invited international guests.

“I’m happy to be engaged in this project aimed at creating jobs in the northern part of Africa: by setting up a textile, apparel and fashion industry,” explained Mario Boselli, honorary president of the Arab Fashion Council in a fashionmag.com article. “We can try to prevent people, the wars notwithstanding, from being forced to emigrate to seek work.”

“The pan-European and Mediterranean area can play a significant role in the globalized world to keep the various macro-systems balanced. These days, competition isn’t between individual countries,” Boselli said, “but among macro-areas: having a pan-European and Mediterranean area where goods can be manufactured cheaply and then sold on markets such as the Arab Emirates, means creating a bi-lateral economic system, with suppliers and customers, beneficial both for Italy and southern Europe.”

Arab Fashion Week will differ from the already existing Dubai fashion week in that it will feature mostly Arab designers. Communications giant, Capital Group, organizes Dubai Fashion Week.

Like daughter, like father

Modeling runs in Johnny Depp’s family. In fact, you could say like daughter like father. Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose is a budding model and now daddy just landed Dior’s new scent, Sauvage.

Johnny Depp also stars in a video that celebrates the launch of Sauvage.  The video commercial is set in the desert where Depp buries his jewelry for no apparent reason. The seemingly unrelated video is directed and conceived by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. In a press release Mondino explained, ” [Sauvage] tells a story of freedom and emotion, a man and his instincts.”

Lima’s new fragrance

Adriana Lima never lets any grass grow under her feet. After almost 20 years in the fashion industry, Lima is still going strong. And her new fragrance campaign with Marc Jacobs proves that.

Jacobs’ highly anticipated Decadence hits stores in late October. Created by master perfumer Annie Buzantian in collaboration with Ann Gottlieb and Marc Jacobs, the fragrance opens with gourmet notes of Italian plum, iris and saffron associated with the Bulgarian rose and jasmine sambac. The dry down is elevated by notes of liquid amber and papyrus wood.

The campaign was shot by Steven Meisel with Lima biting down on the golden chain of the Decadence bottle.

Fashion and basketball

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and the Harlem Globetrotters may seem like strange bedfellows, but then who said all fashion collaborations are natural progressions? At any rate, the Harlem Globetrotters have teamed up with fashion personality Angela Simmons for a fashion presentation in honor of the Harlem Globetrotters 90th anniversary tour.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved the Harlem Globetrotters—especially their winning track record,” said Simmons in a fashionmag.com article. “My goal for this collection was to reimagine the look of the legendary Globetrotters uniforms by infusing elements of the team’s rich 90-year history with New York City vibes and basketball-inspired swagger.”

The Harlem Globetrotters/Angela Simmons presentation will be a part of Style 360 during NYFW. Style 360 is in its 11th year and is now sponsored by KIA and US Weekly.

“Fashion Police” revamped

The “Fashion Police” is back. But, do you really care?

Without Joan Rivers and Kelly Osborne some fashion pundits contend that the revamped “Fashion Police” is a mere shadow of its irreverent self. Melissa Rivers, previously an executive producer of the show, takes her mother’s place as a judging panelist. On Monday, guests judging panelists were NeNe Leakes and Margaret Cho as “Fashion Police” gave the 411 on MTV’s “Video Music Awards”.

“Yeah, it’s been a little bit of a crazy year around here. And, well, I’m still cleaning up messes,” admits Melissa Rivers in a washingtonpost.com article  … “But the good news is “Fashion Police” is back!”

Weekend Fashion News Alert: Beyoncè’s September Issue Cover, Galliano Re-emerges in London, and The Gap’s Profits Fall

For fall 2015 black seems to be the new black. With Serena Williams gracing the cover of New York magazine fall fashion issue, Misty Copeland resplendent on the September issue of Essence, and Beyoncè triumphantly seductive on the September issue of Vogue, black women are reigning supreme on the September covers of fashion and life and entertainment magazines.

Vogue’s coveted September issue is its biggest issue of the year. This year the September issue contains 832 pages and weighs over four pounds.

Though Beyoncè’s September 2015 cover is much heralded, the issue contains no interview from its megastar cover subject. This is the first time in Vogue’s history that a celebrity who graces the cover did not give a published interview. Beyoncè’s golden silence may be a calculated move.

The essay by New York Times’ editor Margo Johnson was conceived as a cerebral think article to accompany the editorial spread. “She has to be studying how effective her interviews have been so far. She may have decided that they do not contribute as dazzlingly to the portrait of Beyoncé as the other stuff. It’s a perfectly reasonable decision,” commented Johnson.

Galliano’s back!!

John Galliano has been persona non grata in fashion communities since his famous anti-Semitic rant in 2011. Still, 2015 appears to be a turnaround year for Galliano.

As the new creative director of Martin Margiela, Galliano will make an appearance during the London Fashion Week’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collections after an absence of four years. MM6’s spring 2016 presentation, the Martin Margiela diffusion line, is scheduled for Sunday, September 20.

The 2016 spring fashion calendar is full of shake-ups and reversal this season. Several brands and design houses that show first in certain international fashion capitals have opted to switch cities. Martin Margiela usually shows in NYC has now opted to show in London; Givenchy is showing in NYC instead of Paris this season, and Versace Versus has switched from NYC to London.

The Gap’s financial gap

For the second quarter, Gap, Inc.  has reported a drop in earnings. The quarterly decline in sales is due to a stronger America dollar, shipment delays, and week sales at its flagship brand. Also, the flagship brand has seen an increase loss of customers to mega discount brand competitors such as H&M, Urban Outfitters, Zara, American Eagle Outfitters, and Forever 21.

As reported in fashionmag.com, the company said net income fell by more than a third to $219 million, or 52 cents per share in the second quarter ended Aug. 1, from $332 million, or 75 cents per share, a year earlier. A stronger dollar hit quarterly sales by $100 million and hurt profit by 5 percentage points in the second quarter, Gap said on Thursday.

Market analysts feel that The Gap should focus more on garments that are more trendy and feminine instead of relying on staple items and basics. One bright spot in the quarterly report, Gap’s Old Navy sales increased 3 percent in the second quarter, and sales rose to $1.67 billion.
