New York International Bridal Week Spring 2016 Hair Trend: Simple, Stunning and Undone

Images courtesy of kleinfeld

Gone are the days of perfectly structured up-dos and elegant twists.  This season the prettiest hair was simple and a lot more natural.  Lead stylist Joseph DiMaggio shares the top bridal trends from the runway, “We’re seeing a lot of braids and very tasteful accessories.  The hair is more up this season; just soft and not too done, not too [produced] looking.  Very soft, very matte finish, very youthful.”

Ponytails are normally reserved for trips to the gym. Angel Mendez from Glam Squad created both low and high ponytails for Tony Ward for Kleinfeld’s collection.  “Playing with the natural texture of the hair,” Mendez took a seemingly simple style and made it wedding day appropriate.

BridalHairTrends_NaeemKhan_Davines_5

DiMaggio designed a soft rope chignon for Naeem Khan’s global brides.  To add a little volume and texture DiMaggio added Davines More Inside This Is a Volume Boosting Mousse and blowdried that in.  The hair was brought back into a low bun that was rope braided.  “Rope braids are really in right now especially moving into the summer [in addition to] braids in general,” DiMaggio explains.  The bun which was designed to look like a flower for an “extra little bridal touch” was finished off by pulling out wispy pieces from the top and the sides to give it that “wind swept romantic do.”  DiMaggio finished off the look with Davines More Inside This Is a Medium Hold Hair Spray to keep everything in place.

At Reem Acra, DiMaggio designed long sleek braids adorned with pearls and diamonds, turning the hair into jewelry.  To get the look, create a strong center part and a ponytail at the occipital bone.  Secure the ponytail with an elastic cord and braid hair.  For the show, DiMaggio used extensions, creating perfectly adorned 12″ braids, but the enhanced braids would look great at any length.

Monique Lhuillier kept hair off the face, also focusing on a center part, while Oscar de la Renta brushed the hair back avoiding any part at all.  While very simple, these more natural looks feel light and airy allowing the bride’s natural beauty to shine through.

Natural and airy, New York International Bridal Week spring 2016 showed us that hair doesn’t need to be too complicated to still look elegant.  We love these braids, buns and ponies for a fresh and unexpected wedding day hairstyle.

Bridal Beauty Alert: Spring 2016 Beauty Trends for Your Big Day

Downloads62Parallel to the neutral color beauty trends seen doing New York Fashion Week, bridal trends are also going au natural.  These bridal beauty trends are incorporating glowing skin that seems as if it’s lit from within, paired with a soft flush on the cheeks results in a radiant bride.  Pops of color on the lips added with a soft smudged liner or bronze smoky eye take the look to the next level, adding a little something extra.

Downloads61

A little pop of pink

Matte skin and finished brows with a coral pink lip are paired with Naeem Khan’s global bridal collection. Lead makeup artist Daniel Martin for Mary Kay shares, “We came up with this look that was very pretty and very effortless.”  “You want something that will complement the dress but not overpower it,”Martin emphasizes.  “Spring is very optimistic, you’re going to see pops of color, a pink on the lip, or a pop of coral.”

Worth the Wait, a semi sheer flush blush with just a touch of iridescence” from Essie’s new bridal collection added a little color to the bridal manicure explains artist Julie Kandalec.  “A lot of women are being more daring.  The French [manicure] is totally passé and I’m so glad brides are finally picking up on that.  Brides are now like ‘I just want to do a pink or red and have it stand out against the dress.’  It’s good because they’re just going straight to their honeymoon,” exclaims Kandalec.

A hint of pink is a great way to add a little color and still keep with a traditional bridal look.  Fashion Reverie suggests Shiseido’s Veiled Rouge in Rosalie, a soft lustrous pink that leaves your lips hydrated and smooth and Urban Decay’s Sheer Revolution Lipstick in Sheer Ladyflower, a dark rosy rich pigmented pink for the perfect pout for that first kiss as man and wife.

Soft stand out eyes

Reem Acra featured soft rosy cheeks that complemented a “bronze smoky eye with a little bit of glitter and a wink eyeliner” shares Cassandra Garcia for Bobbi Brown.  “So bridal, but a little more dramatic, which is perfect for [Reem Acra’s starry night] theme.”  Garcia is also the makeup genius behind the bridal looks at Marchesa’s ethereal, dream-like collection.  To complement the romance and drama, Garcia applied clean white eyeliner for Marchesa with minimal mascara for a fresh and modern bridal design with glowing Bobbi Brown skin.  Playing up the eyes in lighter shades such as bronze, whites, and browns adds extra interest, but still keeps the look natural.  Although Garcia warns, “Don’t try something you haven’t tried before.  If you’re not used to doing a smoky eye, I wouldn’t choose your wedding day to experiment with one.”

It’s also important to keep dark circles and puffy eyes at bay, Fashion Reverie recommend a great nights sleep and alba Botanica’s Fast Fix for Puffy Eyes, a cooling eye gel which uses caffeine and cucumbers for the perfect base for your radiant eye makeup.

Editor’s Pick: Warby Parker’s Luminary Collection

Early morning bird chirpings, warm temperatures, bright skies, and cherry blossoms all signify that its time to put away the layers of clothing, don some stylish comfortable shoes and get outside and enjoy the fantastic weather. If you are perusing around the streets of New York City in J Brand jeans or a Lily Pulitzer floral print dress with a Guess denim jacket and fashionable Carolinna Espinosa Cypruss flats, just remember your eyes may need some protection from the glaring rays of the sun. New York City’s tall buildings can only give you a moderate amount of protection.

In this spring season of icons and visionaries, Warby Parker introduces the “Luminary Collection,” a nod to icons and artists that are head of the curve and not afraid to take risks. The days of group identity and assimilation are over. Stand out from the crowd and be noticed. Set off your individual style and be inherently confident with Warby Parker’s Luminary Collection. Remember, real style is about a complete head to toe look!!

Like the folks who influence the frames, each of these five new styles embodies a fearless personality. You’ll find bold variations (in both optical and sun) of the classic aviator shape, plus two other unique frames with their own sets of personality: Upshaw, our take on the squared-off navigator style and Abbott, a pair of round-rimmed glasses that reintroduce our mirrored lens. Additionally, each style in the collection is constructed from premium Japanese titanium.

Throw in three new colors—Heritage Bronze, Antique Gold, Brushed Navy—and you’ve got yourself a collection that’s effortless, assured, and ready for anything. To standout, you don’t have to astound with outlandish, one-of-a-kind trendy fashion that will only be in vogue one season. Oftentimes, less is more!! Chic, streamlined, minimalist style has staying power. And Warby Parker’s new Luminary Collection definitely fits that bill!!

Fall 2015 Trend Report: Wide-Legged Pants

The 70s are back. Though the spring 2015 collections brought the decade of the “Me Generation” back with its emphasis on bohemian chic and wild prints, for fall 205 designers delved a bit deeper into the many style trends that populated the 1970s. From hippy dippy granny dresses to Studio 54 glam to au natural looks evidenced in Carole King’s 1971 “Tapestry” album to high Victorian collars that started on Carnaby Street in the late 1960s but ended up in American ready-to-wear collection in the early 70s, fall 2015 was all about re-imagining the 70s in ways that were new and innovative.

One of the biggest trends from the fall 2015 collections was the wide-legged pants trend. In the early and mid-70s, wide-legged pants were evolution of the hippy dippy denim craze and morphed into looks that women combined with sharp suit jackets as they entered more into the corporate world.  However for fall 2015, the wide-legged pant aesthetic is about more than corporate office attire or casual denim projections.

A few designers found ways to incorporate the wide-legged pant trend in ways that elevated their collections. Below you will find Fashion Reverie’s choices:

Vivienne Tam

Known for her astute skill at combining East meets West silhouettes, this season Tam looked to 1970s as focal point of her collection funneled through the prism of chinoiserie. There was an ornate quality in this collection that has been missing from some of Tam’s recent collections.

Tam’s incorporation of the wide-legged pant aesthetic was demonstrated in wide-legged pants layered with sheer black overlays and dresses. Tam also combined a variety of fabrics in this collection evidenced in wide-legged pants of tweed and silk chiffon and tulle. And Tam’s thick, wide cuffs of her pants set her apart from other designers.

Sally LaPointe

Sally LaPointe looked to modern dance and mixed media artist Pina Bausch for inspiration for her fall 2015 collection. Her infusion of the wide-legged pant trend was a natural extension of the whole collection. As a separate, LaPointe’s wide-legged pants work well with a variety of tops and can mixed match for daywear or a night out on the town.

Georgine

Where many designers 70s inspiration was paired with looks from the 1920s and 1960s, Georgine synthesized the 70s with the 1930’s Weimar Republic for looks that were slightly campy but possessed that sizzle and pop that would appeal to looks of consumers. Creative director Georgine Ratelband wide-legged pants were made more for a late night rendezvous than an office job. Still, the frivolity of these garments demonstrated that whimsy and flash should still have a place in a women’s wardrobe.

Dior

European designers also carried over this trend from spring 2015. Dior’s take on wide-legged pants was more conservative and subdued, but still chic and sophisticated. And by constructed his pant cuffed and mid-calf, Raf Simons helped the fashion cognoscenti envision the wide-legged pant with in new and interesting ways.

Giambattista Valli

Giambattista Valli substituted the wide-legged, flared pant for his signature short full dresses. Combined and layerd with the graphic motif in this outing, Valli’s flared pant was definitely for the more daring fashionista.
