Editors’ Pick: Celebrate Summer with Polish Me Silly

Images courtesy of Illumination PR

Images courtesy of Illumination PR

Warm weather is finally here. Gone are the heavy coats, scarves and gloves; and if you are on the East Coast you are starting to see tank and crop tops, shorty shorts, sandals and more skin exposure overall.

With the arrival of warmer temperatures comes shinier and more colorful nail art. While some nail art brands promote polish that can run as high as $35 per bottle of nail polish, there are other less expensive brands that can give you the same effect of the pricier polishes.

Polish Me Silly was borne out of a mother/daughter duo that was tired of boring nail manicures and wanted to create a brand that would appeal to that consumer that was not afraid to stand out in a crowd. Originally launched on etsy.com, within 24 hours, they were selling out of their polishes and quickly seeing a response from children, teens and women of all ages around the world.

Over the last five years, Polish Me Silly has grown to include over 130 unique designs that include specialty glitters, multi-chromes, holographic rainbows, flakey glitter, thermal-color changing and bright neon confetti and polka dot top coat polishes. All of the polishes are meant to last up to 2 weeks (or more depending on how many coats are applied). Polish Me Silly only creates unique and hard-to-find nail lacquers.

And with Polish Me Silly polishes, beginning at $6.00 plus sales tax; you cannot not go wrong. Don’t be afraid of color for the summer; flaunt your colorful nails. Be whimsical, be bold, be colorful, and be flashy. Polish Me Silly polishes can be found online as well as in various stores within the U.S.

Is it Mother’s Day already? Well, not quite yet. However Mother’s Day is right around the corner. And if you are like most of us and live on the East Coast, the chilly spring weather has made you forget that it is the month of May and Mother’s Day is upon us.

In case you are pushed up against the clock, Fashion Reverie has come up with some great last-minute gifts that will not only make your Mom, a female relative or the woman in your life happy, this gif selection will let them know that they are also special and should be celebrated.

Forty-plus is the new early thirties. Which mean it is not uncommon to see 40-year old Mom or a 40-plus age woman who has a lot of bold sass and sexy.

That said; help that special lady get her va va voom on in a dress from HANEY’s spring 2016 collection. Launched in 2012 by Mary Alice Haney, in recent years HANEY has become a red carpet favorite of Hollywood celebs from Taylor Swift, Gina Rodriguez to Shay Mitchell and Brittany Snow. And to prove that a dress from the spring 2016 is perfectly appropriate for Mother’s Day, Haney posted a fabulous image of a Mom playing basketball in heels and a dress from their spring 2016 collection!! Jacques Torres Chocolate offers handmade artisan chocolates using only natural ingredients of the highest quality. From cleverly named chocolate bon bons, award winning hot chocolate, decadently rich chocolate chip cookies to all natural ice cream, made without taking any shortcuts or adding any preservatives, extracts or “essences.” With several locations in NYC, consumers or tourists have lots of options of where to purchase Jacques Torres Chocolate. And if NYC is not an option, Jacques Torres Chocolate can be purchased online at mrchocolate.com.

By special request, the BOVET’s artisans can employ their talents to create a piece unique featuring exquisite hand-engraving, gem-setting, or miniature painting that is significant to the gift recipient—making the Lady BOVET Flower of Life a meaningful and outstanding Mother’s Day gift. A gift that presents three options in one, the Flower of Life may be enjoyed as a traditional wristwatch, as an elegant table clock, or as a fascinating pendant. No Mother’s Day list would be complete without a great skincare product. NUORI has built an entire skincare business around the concept of freshness. With NUORI freshness is more than a concept, it is the best way to get the most out of any skincare product.  NUORI preserves the freshness of each skincare product by posting a use-by date and getting rid of all products that have expired.

NUORI brings two unique things to its skincare products: its active ingredients are not weakened by time-related breakdown and its ingredients are 100% free from preservatives and other synthetic additives normally used to prolong the shelf life of beauty products. And NUORI’s five facial products are perfect to give your mom that youthful glow, keeping her bright eyed and bushy tailed. This Denmark-based brand can be purchased in Denmark, Norway, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Hong Kong, Singapore, and two locations in NYC, as well as online. Editors Pick: Converse Chuck Taylor Women’s All-Star Crochet Collection

Collages608If you live on the East Coast, you might still be feeling the bitter chill of early spring. No need to fret, more temperate weather is on the way. With Coachella and other spring/summer festivals on the horizon, Converse has just the ideal sneaks for ladies who want breathable, comfortable sneakers with just a hint of style and innovation.

For several seasons now, Converse has looked outside of the traditional canon of sneakers styles embracing design aesthetics from rock n’ roll, punk, heavy metal and even esteemed Italian fashion houses, like Missoni. Within this pantheon of cultural influences, it is only natural that Converse would look to their design palette to include footwear for women who are looking for comfort, style and innovation.

The All Star Crochet collection promotes breathability with lining only at the heel and toe, making these the perfect sneakers for summer activities. Designed with a unique upper of interlocking loops of canvas, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Crochet will keep feet light and cool, whether walking the hot city streets, biking the boardwalks, or dancing around music festivals.

The new Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Crochet collection will be available beginning Thursday, March 31 at Converse stores, online at converse.com and at specialty retailers for a suggested retail price of $60-65 USD.

And who says you cannot have style and comfort all at the same time!!

2016 Red Carpet Trend: The Elegant Reincarnation of the Ear Cuff

What do Lucille Ball, Prince, and Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame have in common? They all were trendsetters for the humble ear cuff, which has now become serious ‘ear candy’ on fashion runways and red carpets.

Lucille_Ball_earcuff3As star of the popular sitcom “I Love Lucy”—which we are still watching in the 21st century—Lucille Ball, elevated the ear cuff to a fashion statement. The life of the simple ear cuff, in the 80s and 90s provided punk and rock music royalty, Like Prince, with a rebellious and edgy fashion accessory, featuring silver chains, spikes, arrows, and geometric shapes.

Cutting edge fashion designer Alexander McQueen sent the ear cuff down the runway with dramatic effect in his fall/winter 2003 collection, with the ear cuff returning again and again for the past several seasons.  And “Harry Potter’s” Emma Watson, who won our hearts as Hermione, has elevated the ear cuff into a 21st century fashion statement.

Sophie Katirai, owner of Sophia’s Closet, an online store for vintage, upscale and costume jewelry, has noted that our fascination with the ear cuff “continues to grow season upon season, as the style elite, celebrity icons and designer catwalk shows continue to embrace and rediscover this key accessory trend.”

Jewelry made of diamonds and pearls, combined with gold and silver, have always been donned by the wealthy and elite. But in the 21st century, the ear cuff has become an earmark of stylish luxury and sophistication.

Forbes has taken notice of emergence of the ear cuff into the luxury jewelry market. Calling it “ear candy” and including Colette’s $12,820 Green Corum diamond and Tsavorite ear cuff in its 2015 Perfectly Gifted Guide.

Jennifer Lawrence had many women’s mouths watering when her left ear lit up the 2013 Paris premiere of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” wearing an ear cuff by Jewelry Designer Ana Khouri, with a price point approaching $25k. Emma Watson set off an ear cuff trend explosion in 2013, wearing cuffs as a reoccurring fashion accessory when she hit the red carpet. She wore ear cuffs “funky” tripling up the effect with three identical rings at the top of the ear.  While at the premiere of “Noah” in 2014, she dazzled admirers with Khouri’s winding ear cuff chain of yellow gold and diamonds, that had to costs a pretty penny.

At the 2015 SAG Awards, Rashida Jones rocked a pair of Norman Silverman’s 20 Carat ear cuffs ringing up the accessory cash register over $130,000. And People Style Magazine in 2015 also tallied up who wore ear cuffs best on the red carpet.

The ear is undoubtedly an erogenous zone, which has been nibbled on for centuries. The earliest ear cuffs, Ms. Katirai says, can be traced back 2000 years to the British Isles. What is the allure of the ear cuff that keeps it coming back? Ms. Katirai contends, “ear cuffs did not require piercing and put less weight on the ears, so more elaborate and larger designs are possible to wear.”

Amy Li, the head of products at BERRICLE, a lifestyle jewelry brand creating “attainable” luxury with classic and contemporary designs, agrees. “We’ve seen graphic elements all over S/S 2016 runways such as Christian Dior and Céline. The earring cuff styles this year thusly have transformed with bolder and more abstract designs.”

Some ear cuffs have become collector’s items. “We have come across many beautiful vintage costume ear cuffs,” says Ms. Katirai, which also might have a high price tag.

That brings us to the 2016 red carpet season. “Blackish’s” Tracee Ellis Ross really caused heads to turn in a form-fitting black dress with low décolletage paired with black Everest ear cuffs from Graziela Gems at the 47th NAACP Image Awards. ”Vampire Diaries’” Kat Graham’s short upswept hairdo only accentuated her double curve ear cuffs in black and white from Graziela Gems at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards. And last, but certainly not least, Julianne Hough shimmered at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards a black sequined Kaufmanfranco dress accessorized with the Jade Trau for Forevermark 18k white gold and diamond Large Luna Ear Cuff.

Editors and fashion industry professionals spend more time waiting on line to get into fashion shows/presentation than exactly witnessing the great fashion strutting down the catwalk. (A little secret for the fashion novice, fashion shows actually last about 11 minutes.)
