When you think West Coast bride, what comes to mind? Is it her flower child freedom, her minimalistic style, or non-traditional look? With continuous scrolls of wedding content, designers seek out the newest trends that are driving the market as seasons come and go. Fashion Reverie examines the standout trends for the West Coast, that cater to every aesthetic. A full-coverage on the spring 2019 bridal season, highlighting ‘it trends’ for our brides to be will is a mainstay of Fashion Reverie’s coverage. Bridal designers are now catering to the individualistic, creative mind. A premiere source for bridal fashion inspiration, designers continue to cross boundaries redefining the classic bridal market. Dresses that have an effortless chic with accentuated necks and exposed backs for a particular minimalist approach. Trends are changing … style is changing and so is this billion dollar market. From pastels, shimmer, modern edge, capes, and floating statement sleeves the West Coast style enhances simplicity with confidence. Although many of the pieces aren’t traditional, the elongated length of the garments still resemble that “bridal look”. Fashion Reverie looks to Los Angeles boutiques who cater to every unique individual—from Jin Wang, Mon Amie, Marina Morrison, Vera Wang Bride, Panache Bridal, Allure Brides, and the only West Coast bridal fashion trade show, The Knot. These bridal boutiques are stocked full of bridal collections that can appeal to that West Coast bride with three standout trends. For shimmer and shine look to bridal brands Berta, Mira Zwillinger, Naeem Khan and Mark Zunino with Zunino and Berta having a strong West Coast presence.

Dr. Natalya Fazylova Informs about Bridal Beauty Treatments

Looking great at your nuptials goes beyond just a great bridal gown or looking slim and trim. Having great skin does wonders and will make heads turn while you walk down that aisle and at your reception party. Remember, many brides have pre-bridal parties a few days before “the big day,” and you need to look bright-eyed and bushy tailed on that day as well.Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa has a plethora of treatments that can make you have that bridal glow on your wedding day. Dr. Natalya Fazylova spoke with Fashion Reverie about two treatments that are sure to deliver the goods.

Gisele Bundchen getting vampire facial. Image courtesy of vampirefacial.com

Fashion Reverie: What is the vampire facial?Dr. Fazylova: The vampire facial is a procedure by which we collect the patient’s own blood, process the blood in a specific centrifuge and it separates stem cells and growth factors within the platelets in the plasma. We take the plasma that is platelets and growth cells and we address wrinkles, pigments issues and we inject the liquid from the plasma in those problem areas. It is a natural way to regenerate growth factors and collagen on the patient’s skin. It is anti-aging, it will improve skin texture, tone of the skin, and if you inject deeply, it will help collagen grow and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

FR: What would be the benefits of the vampire facial?

Dr. Fazylova: The benefits will help to erase the wrinkles it will improve the tone of the skin, decrease pigmentation and help to build the collagen. We start to lose collagen after the age of 25. There is also a healing property in this process, so we also use it on patients that have bad acne and scars. It has multiple ways of addressing skin problems.

FR: How would this procedure work well for brides and members of their bridal party?

Dr. Fazylova: Depending on the skin condition, the best way to get benefits from this procedure for brides-to-be and their bridal parties is do a series of the procedure, and a minimum of three. Someone who needs just a little modification of the skin with better skin tone, and texture of the skin, after only one treatment patients will find their skin will have a beautiful healthy glow. And as we know all brides want to glow on their wedding day. Sometimes if minor adjustments are needed for the skin, you will see improvement with just one treatment. However, for more long-term results for problem skin, the patient would need a series of treatments, preferably scheduled one month a part. Brides should schedule the treatment a couple of months in advance.

FR: What is the turnaround or downtime with this procedure where you can actually see the benefits?

Dr. Fazylova: There is barely any downtime with the vampire facial. You may have some redness for up to 24 hours. The procedure does have healing properties, so there is no skin damage after the procedure. My clients actually achieve the glowing skin effect after the redness is gone, a few days later. If we are working on more severe skin challenges, you see benefits after a couple of weeks. What is good about this therapeutic procedure is that benefits continue well beyond the procedure. It stimulates collagen production and will continue well past a year if the patient has received up to three treatments.

FR: Who should not have this procedure?

Dr. Fazylova: Any client that comes to us we perform a 3-D skin analysis that shows skin damage up to three layers. Clients that have active lesions, rosacea, psoriasis, or active acne are not good candidates for the vampire facial. If clients have severe skin issues we recommend other treatments to treat those challenges, wait for the results and then they may be good candidates for the vampire facial.

    Vampire facial before and after

FR: Why is this procedure so popular among celebrities?Dr. Fazylova: First, the vampire facial is very popular among celebrities because it is a very natural procedure; it is not toxic, nothing is injected into your body but your own blood. There is never any bad reaction to the procedure, there are also no complications if it injected around the eyes or other sensitive areas. And the client also sees a great result and it is again your own blood regenerating your own cells to work more efficiently.

FR: What are the price points for this procedure at Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa?

Dr. Fazylova: Our price point for the vampire facial for one treatment is $950 for the face, if the client needs face and neck the price point is $1250; however, if they want buy a package we offer discounts of 20% to 25% off.

FR: What other body parts to you use the vampire facial for other than face and neck?

Dr. Fazylova: It depends on what the client needs. It could be done additionally on patient’s chest and décolleté, as well as hands. We have seen great results on hands. This treatment is great for a bride that is wearing a bridal gown that has dipping décolletage. This treatment has also been done for the back.

FR: Could you speak to the IPL Skin Rejuvenation with pulse light that you also perform at Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa?Dr. Fazylova: The IPL Skin Rejuvenation is a type of laser treatment that is used to treat hyperpigmentation or sun damage and can treat rosacea blotchy skin, redness, and broken capillaries. It is very quick treatment that takes around 20 minutes. There is also very little downtime. The patient can go back to work the next day or even the same day, looking refreshed and vibrant.

FR: What is the price point on this treatment?

Dr. Fazylova: At Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa the price is $150 and if the patient buys a package that get 20% to 25% off.

FR: Which consumers are not good candidates for this treatment?

Dr. Fazylova: It is not safe for clients that have dark skin and/or skin type 5 and skin type 6. IPL Skin Rejuvenation targets red and brown pigment and the treatment could burn off some of the pigment that darker skin clients already have. They could develop light spots on their skin. Also, patients that take antibiotics or certain antidepressants that make them photosensitive are also not good candidates for IPL Skin Rejuvenation.

This treatment is primarily for clients that have fair skin and are having issues with hyperpigmentation and have skin issues due to sun damage. The vampire facial is excellent for patients with darker skin.

                                          Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa

FR: How should consumers pursue IPL Skin Rejuvenation?Dr. Fazylova: This treatment should be purchased in a package of three treatments with each treatment scheduled one month a part to see great results. The patient could then repurchase another package, if need be, in six months. The patient should not go out in the sun a lot after receiving the treatment, so the best time to have the procedure is in the winter and early spring.

FR: Brides typically wear quite a bit of makeup on their very special day. What is the downtime between getting IPL Skin Rejuvenation and/or the vampire facial and wearing makeup? And, what other products should brides not use if they have recently had these procedures?

Dr. Fazylova: Patients should not do any peels soon after these procedures. They should also not use products with Vitamin C. We provide our clients after the procedures with a post-treatment kit that provides them product they should use weeks after the procedure, as well as a skincare regimen.

Editor’s Pick: Angela Mitchell’s Fall 2018 Shoe Collection

                                                 Images courtesy of alamy.com

Shoe collections come a dime a dozen, particularly in a market oversaturated with inexpensive, lackluster product. In response to US consumers’ penchant for product at bargain-basement prices, some footwear brands have sacrificed creativity, quality and innovation for lower prices and banality. Angela Mitchell is not that kind of footwear brand.Established in 2016 by creative designers and sisters Krystal and Marilyn Lavoie, Angela Mitchell is a Canadian emerging luxury shoe brand, handmade in Italy for men and women. And the brand’s fall 2018 debut during New York Fashion Week: The Shows was a bonafide hit, demonstrating that the design duo’s design aesthetic contains that delicate balance of retail viability and fashion sensibility. Something much needed in the current milquetoast market.

Inspired by a journey through Morocco and the cities of Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir and Berber rural villages, Krystal and Marilyn Lavoie found a way to weave Morocco’s orange sunsets, desert horizons and rich North African culture into a footwear collection that centered on modern sensibilities while pushing fashion’s proverbial envelope. By employing semi-precious stones into a lot of the footwear, particularly on high quality leather, the brand recalled the exotic Moroccan landscapes with its unexpected beauty and mystery.

The women’s collection offers 7 contemporary and classic styles. Among oxfords and fringe-embellished pumps, the Tichka boot embellished with geometric patterns calls upon Moroccan tapestries. Swarovski crystal appliqués in jet, silver night and hematite sparkle against leathers mastered by Italian artisans. The men’s collection, featuring 6 styles, includes the standout Tizi oxford. Designed with the same geometric pattern and audacious spirit as the Tichka, the shoe sets the course for unlimited and unforgettable exploration.

Made of genuine Italian leather, the Angela Mitchell luxury men’s collection features six unique and distinctive men’s styles—all of which carry with them the signature Angela Mitchell mark and embellishments of Swarovski crystals. The men’s footwear collection is designed with the same geometric pattern and audacious spirit as its sister collection, setting the course for unlimited and unforgettable exploration.

West Coast Spring 2018 Fashion Trends

                         Images courtesy of Indigital/vogue.com

There’s a prettier, softer mood in the air from power pastels to summer sequins. Is it too soon to say spring? Well, not quite, yet. As fashion industry leaders abandon winter dress-codes behind, some head to the West Coast for more temperate climates with East Coast temperatures still being chilly. Naturally, New York and Los Angeles have a lot in common, yet, there’s an ongoing rivalry between the two fashion capitals. California’s relaxed lifestyle enlists individuals to make LA style their own. The style is fresh, yet laid-back, with a slight play on sensuality contributing to a feminine edge. Fashion Reverie looks to the trending street styles in Los Angeles and this season is bound to be full of energy, optimism, and bold fashion moments.

                                        Images courtesy of Indigital/vogue.com

Micro-Shades
Kanye West approved, the teeny-tiny sunglasses are a hit both on and off the runway. The perfect accessory, 90s–inspired tiny sunglasses are the most iconic trend straight off the catwalk. Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton this season have revived the micoframes for a comeback.

                                 Images courtesy of Indigital/vogue.com

Sequins
Why limit sequins for just special occasions? There’s plenty of glitter to go around for everyone. This glitzy statement shall be the focal point all season long. Go all out and outshine with this bold sequined trend. If this sparkly ensemble is too much, try the Cinderella shoe as an alternative.

Images courtesy of Indigital/vogue.com and harpersbazaar.com

Lavender
“With the warm LA summers … There is something so timeless and classic about pastels; the color can be worn dressed up or down,” said Tandya Stewart, Fashion and Lifestyle Blogger.Lavender has been deemed the most popular trend by spring 2018 runway shows, so own it. Breathing life into pastels and dusty tones, designers are committed to spring’s vibrant hues and rainbow brights.

Images courtesy of vogue.com and shrimps.com

Plush Fur
A classic for its practicality, plush fur is a wardrobe staple for all LA natives. A new craze on the runway, designers ditch authenticity for faux fur of different proportions and funky prints.“Outerwear is huge in LA and I would say it is the number one trend. Especially lightweight trench coats; they are a necessity in [West Coast] weather. There’s a lot of blend of fabrications and materials [that designers] are being more experimental with”, said Samuel Taylor, creative director and founder of Silent Panda.

                                Images courtesy of Indigital/vogue.com

Graphic Stripes
Eccentric graphic patterns are here to play. Whether they’re horizontal, vertical, thick or thin, these eye-catching stripes are having a moment. Dominate the graphic stripes trend with a full head-to-toe look, separates with strong lines or colorful silhouettes. “Exaggerated graphic stripes are everywhere,” said Samuel Taylor.

Matching Sets
“Canadian Tuxedos, denim jackets paired with denim jeans is currently and always trending in L.A”, said Tandya Stewart. If you love the Canadian Suit, try this fresh update on matching sets this spring. Opt for something more subtle rather than a perfectly tailored suit.—Courtney S. Wilkins

Trends from Fall 2018 European Men’s Shows: Rock It or Leave It

Welcome back to Rock It or Leave It! Fashion Reverie examines the recent trends seen during men’s Fashion shows recently held in Europe. Fashion Reverie gives an expert opinion on what need to be adored and what needs to the hit the trash with the wrapper? Let’s find out.

Images of Kenzo, Y3, Alex Mullins fall 2018 courtesy of gq.com, respectively

YellowKenzo, Y3, Versace

A few seasons back yellow was huge at New York Fashion Week: The Shows and this season that color trend has popped up the men’s collection in Europe. Yellow is an easy way to add a pop of color and add interest to an everyday outfit. The key is to identify the right yellow for your complexion, determining if you’re a cool or warm tone. Yellow can be a stand out color so if you don’t want to be overwhelmed by it, pick an accessory like a watch or pocket square.

Rock It!!

Tartans and PlaidsAlexander McQueen, Versace, Bobby Abley

Scotland’s ears must be burning because tartans and plaids were the talk of the men’s shows this season. These classic prints add interest to any outfit while not pushing the proverbial fashion envelope too far. As long the color of the plaids and tartans enhance the rest of your look, the sky is the limit

Rock It!

Clashing PrintsAlexander McQueen, Versace, Alex Mullins

The runways were awash with outfits that consisted of several wildly different prints sometimes as many as four on one garment. Despite these collections employing excellent stylists and years of experience, many of these models and clashing print combinations were a bit much to take.

Alexander McQueen was able to make it work by combining a pinstripe suit with a tiny sliver of plaid, but it was precarious pairing, at best. If these masterful designers can’t seem to get it right what chance does the average consumer have?

Leave it.

Puffy JacketsChristopher Raeburn, McQueen, Y3

The puffy jackets Tommy Hilfiger made so popular are back! The great thing about these jackets is not only are they fashionable, they’re also very practical. What better use is there for winter fashion than keeping you warm? The downside is they can add bulk to your silhouette, but it’s better than freezing.

Rock It!!

Words and LogosPrada, Rottindean

As the political climates in Europe and America are heating up so is the political activism. Many designers are using their fashion as a platform to give weight to their political beliefs. These garments make a fun and interesting way to express yourself and can make your outfit a conversation piece. Just be careful to a translation of any foreign words before you don the outfit. Years ago, actress Cameron Diaz bought a purse with Chinese lettering on it. She was horrified to learn it was a quote by Communist Dictator Mao Zedong! Don’t let that happen to you.

Rock It!!

Long hairAmiri, Y3, Yohji Yamamoto

Many of the models walking the runways were sporting hair much longer than traditional lengths. While great strides have been made in challenging gender dress codes, having long hair in a corporate environment might be a challenge. Plus men who have been wearing their hair short their entire lives are often surprised how much work goes into maintaining long tresses. You might want to consider leaving this one to the models.

Leave it.
