Celebrity Style: Fashion Reverie’s Stylish Fall TV Picks

Downloads434As the season turn cooler, most of us spend a little more time in front of our television sets. It is also a time when we get to make some new “television friends” because of the plethora of new television shows launched in early fall. Fashion Reverie likes to pay close attention to their amazing stories but we use some of the main ladies and new TV friends as fashion inspiration.

Fashion Reverie has rounded a few main ladies and new friends who have a great sense of style.

Annalise Keating “How to Get Away with Murder”

Viola Davis plays a law professor at a prestigious University in Philadelphia.  Not all professors look nerdy, and Annalise in this highly rated TV series proves that point.  Her character is confident and intimidating at the same time with a wardrobe that supports this dichotomy. Our thoughts are dominatrix in business suits wit a few fitted leather elements including the burgundy leather jacket she sports in all the promos.

Jane Villanueva “Jane the Virgin”

Gina Rodriguez stars as a hard-working, religious Latina who has vowed to stay a virgin until she is married to her detective boyfriend. Accidentally artificially inseminated by a doctor during a checkup that happens to be a married man and the new owner of the hotel where she is working, Jane consistently gets into wacky situations where family and friends question her commitment to sexual abstinence.

Very girly dressy that are flirty but not too revealing seem to be the style for this character. Think Cynthia Rowley, Nicole Miller and a particularly adventurous situation maybe Juicy Couture or The Row.

Olivia Pope “Scandal”

Portrayed by Kerry Washington and partially based on Judy Smith, Ms. Pope has a unique style that is business attire appropriate but chic and exciting. She doesn’t wear a lot of color and is known for PRADA totes and well-fitted suits.  Peplum tops and comfortable coats are yet another must in her closet.  Dior, Armani, Valentino, and McQueen are regular in rotation for this “Fashion Gladiator,” and since these pieces are so inspiring The Limited recently launched a fashion line featuring over seventy affordable looks. These looks were created in collaboration with Kerry Washington, costume designer Lyn Paolo and The Limited’s Elliot Staples.

Juliette Barnes “Nashville”

Hayden Panettiere is a feisty country music star in this TV series with a wardrobe that matches her personality and down-home style.  Juliette (Hayden) is quite petite and the wardrobe she wears in the show fits her adorably. There are amazing fitted embroidered dresses for her concert performances, some very nice casual looks and great shoes. Pregnant in real life and on the screen, viewers are experiencing a little bit of a shift in her outfits, less revealing but still well fitted.

Natalie Figueroa “Orange Is the New Black”

Alysia Reiner is in charge of a women’s prison.  A tough penitentiary is probably the last place you’d expect someone to be well dressed. Well, despite her surroundings Figueroa always looks good. Her style is the expected appropriate office attire but her authoritative attitude, accessories and very high hells keep us interested.  It is refreshing to see a well-dressed lady between the prison jumpsuits.

Just for fun, in case you are stuck in the 80’s, explore Beverly Goldberg (Wendy McLendon-Covey) of “The Goldbergs”.  No one wears a jumpsuit and high waisted pants and crazy outfits the way she does.

Video Exclusive: Devious Maid’s Paula Garces

Though most of us know Paula Garces as the maniacal maid in Lifetime’s controversial “Devious Maids,” are acting credits are long and extremely varied. From a three-year run as Pilar Santos in the daytime drama “Guiding Light” to supporting roles in “Dangerous Minds,” “Clockstoppers,” “Marci X,” and “National Lampoon’s Pledge This!” to appearing in three “Harold & Kumar” films, Paula Garces has proven time and time again that can embrace a variety of characters.

Still, Paula Garces brings more to the table than  great acting chops. She is an entrepreneur, helping to create and putting voice to the character Aluna, from the “Heroes of Newerth” online battle video game, a mother of two and a style icon in her own right. Consistently in the front row during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Paula counts Carmen Marc Valvo as one of her favorites designers.

Fashion Reverie’s celebrity style editor, Tijana Ibrahimovic had a chance to chat with Paula at the Donna Distefano showroom about “Devious Maids,” the Aluna character, her family and her love of fashion. Enjoy

Celebrity Style Alert: First Family of Fashion Picks

HT_kim_kardashian_kanye_north_wedding_sk_140612_16x9_992According to Andre Leon Talley we have a “First Family of Fashion.” Kim, Kanye, and baby North may be Talley’s choice, but others beg to differ. At times the dynamic trio has great style sense—which is probably why Talley nominated them— but they are not the only couple that knows how to assemble great looks.

While everyone was rolling eyes on Kanye’s chest exposure at the Lanvin show, Vogue’s former editor-at-large loved it and called it Kanye’s best look. Really? When it comes to Kim’s best looks, Fashion Reverie agrees with Andre. Kim in Givenchy’s lace jumpsuit did seem like “the new sexy.”

But, no matter how adorable baby North is, the title is a bit much. Fashion Reverie thinks that there are few other famous families that were fashionable and setting trends before the Kimye phenomenon.

The Beckhams

Victoria Caroline Beckham, a former model and well-respected fashion designer along with her husband David and their four children are true standouts when it comes to individual style. We do have to mention that David is a face of many brands and was hailed as the ultimate “metrosexual” by the man who invented the term, Mark Simpson. When they are all together they look flawless and seem to be successful at anything they do. With success, financial security and a great sense of style this power couple didn’t make Andre Leon Tally’s list. Hmm, I wonder why?  Apparently not good enough for Andre!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

They keep under the radar but when they do make an appearance they get lots of positive feedback from fashion critics, even when they wear matching outfits—Angelina and Brad in tuxedos. It is a wonder they can pull off great style choices with six kids in tote. And their children are kid trendsetters. Madoxx has distinguished himself with his unique special haircut since he was a baby.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale

There is No Doubt this is a very stylish family with a lot of sass and sizzle. Gwen has a great eye for style. She has been running a successful fashion brand for over ten years and the couple has three beautiful boys together. They all look pretty dapper when they are together and there seems to be no need for low décolletage when it comes to Gavin Rossdale.

The Obamas

Fashion Education Workshop at The White House, who says politics and fashion can’t mix? Hmm, that’s a hard call, but it is a great platform to support some of the most successful young designers in this country.  First Lady Michelle Obama is a cultural and style icon, even making the cover of Vogue. Daughters Malia and Sasha Obama are always appropriately and stylishly dressed and Barack Obama even tries to experiment with different color-patterned suits. Criticized for his beige summer suit, President Obama was not sidetracked and continues alongside his wife to a supporter of the arts and the fashion industry.

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” remember that wedding saying? Well, LA–based fashion designer Kelly Nishimoto is all to familiar with that classic adage as the host of TLC’s bridal makeover show, “Something Borrowed.” Taking vintage and/or used wedding gowns and making them it fresh, elegant wedding gowns is Nishimoto raison d’être on the show, but she is so much more than that.

Fashion Reverie had the unique opportunity to get know Kelly Nishimoto up close and personal during New York International Bridal Week. Our celebrity style editor Tijana Ibrahimovic got some great bridal advice on bridal trends for our readers from this bridal expert. Enjoy!!

Fashion Reverie’s Alternative Bridal Gown Picks for Amal Clooney

The 2014 British Fashion Awards nominees include Emma Watson, Cara Delevingne, Rita Ora and other expected Brits with style; pretty easy guesses. One person on the list that Fashion Reverie is delighted about is Amal Clooney.

Amal Clooney arrived on the style scene late this year as the intended of George Clooney. And Fashion Reverie has been wowed by almost everything she wears. Recently, her parade of outfits pre and post marriage to George Clooney justifies her spot on everyone’s best-dressed list—especially her off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta wedding gown.

On the heels of New York International Bridal Week, Fashion Reverie came up with five looks we thought Amal would also look great in because she makes such a beautiful bride.

Atelier Provonios brida image courtesy of harpers bazaar.com

Atelier Pronovias brida image courtesy of harpersbazaar.com

When Fashion Reverie first glanced at the Atelier Pronovias lace gown it screamed Amal. There is something very romantic about this beautiful and very unique piece. Quarter-inch sleeves and the illusion of an almost unbuttoned top make a great choice for a svelte bride. Bottom-to-middle gown slits balance out the silhouette and tastefully facilitates a hint of seductiveness.

Carolina Herrera bridal image courtesy of harpers bazaar.com

Carolina Herrera was a long-time friend of Oscar de la Renta. Besides both being Latin, they have quite a few others things in common. Their designs give you sense of elegance and tranquility. This strapless gown with a touch of embroidery would make Amal look peacefully angelic.

Honor for Stone Fox Bride image courtesy of wwd.com

Honor for Stone Fox Bride makes some foxy dresses. Amal seem to be ready to take some fashion risks. This gown is regular A-line but somewhat unconventional with pockets and sheer lace illusion around the chest area.

The mermaid bridal silhouette is a good choice for most brides. It you are missing a little bit of volume in your hips it is a good solution. Anna Maier ‘s bridal gown from her fall 2015 collection caught Fashion Reverie’s attention for the pale pink color with layers of floral-embroidered lace.

Amal likes provocative unique fashion looks and two-piece crepe sheath wedding dress with an embroidered lace top and crystal details by Inbal Dror would look great on her. This dramatic look would definitely get the paparazzi’s cameras clicking!!

Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Final Bow

It has happened; the last prêt-a-porter (ready-to-wear) by Jean-Paul Gaultier (JPG). Once referred to as the enfant terrible of French fashion, Gaultier has decided to focus his creative mien on haute couture collections and his fragrances which will facilitate a colossal opportunity for another ambitious, delicious millennial. (This is Fashion Reverie positive approach to his departure from prêt-a-porter.)

The awful truth is Fashion Reverie and the fashion industry at large will miss his ready-to-wear collections. The fact that we find men skirts and Madonna’s “cones” a normal occurrence shows how much influence Jean-Paul Gaultier has had on the modern fashion scene.

The last collection at the Grand Rex Theatre was no less spectacular than previous ready-to-wear collections. Set up as a beauty pageant with an invitation in the form of a beauty queen sash in the colors of the French tricolore, this final promenade promised to be a memorable moment. Opening with girls in sailor stripes dancing to Prince’s “1999,” radio journalist Alex Taylor took the stage. He invited Rossy de Palma portraying Madame de Fontenay, the behatted former chair of the French “Miss” committee.

Each section represented a memorable moment from Gauthier’s illustrious career. Miss Tour de France and Lucha Libre represented Gaultier’s sports collection. Slightly older ladies strutting down the catwalk with much younger men in tote represented Vintage. Miss Smoking reminded us that there is a thin line between between masculine and feminine looks.  Footballer’s wives were a great tribute to the euro trash glitz look.

Fashion Reverie’s favorite and the most popular section was a tribute to fashion editors that have supported and inspired JPG throughout his career. “The dominatrix whippers with their critiques” were suddenly on the runway in their signature looks.

Grace Coddington (American Vogue) was in high waisted, wide-legged pants and a feathery white shirt. She wore flats and a small black clutch.

Babeth Dijian (Numero) black, body silhouette pants, small-heeled stilettos, edgy black leather jacket that JPG is so good at designing and of course a cigarette in hand.

Emmanuelle Alt (Vogue Paris) wore all black as well but with laced tight black pants and a cell phone in her hand.

Franca Sozzani (Vogue Italia) was in vogue in a tight top and a midi patent leather, flirty skirt.

Suzy Menkes and Carine Roitfeld model images courtesy of style.com

Carine Roitfeld (CR Fashion Book) was lovely in an olive coat in strappy sandals in a shimmer top.

Suzy Menkes (International Herald Tribune/Vogue UK) is where we finally saw some color; a bright green overcoat, fabulous pair of gloves, bright red and yellow scarf.

The Miss Jean Paul Gaultier pageant had two finalists, Coco Rocha and Anna Cleveland who both wore blush pink-coned bustier dresses. Coco won the competition but fainted upon receiving the crown.

Jean-Paul Gaultier happily said goodbye to his pret-a Porter collection, bowing with a huge Cheshire grin. After all he was the true winner of this pageant!!

Celebrity Style: The Sheers Have It!!

Images courtesy of pop sugar.com

Images courtesy of popsugar.com

As always September during New York Fashion Week is the time when we find out what trends are in and what to have in our closets by springtime. Sheers are popular since last season, but for spring 2015 sheer has become even sheerer, literally. (Does Rihanna come to mind?)

That said; unlike Rihanna, most of us won’t take that kind of risk with our wardrobe. However, if you wear sheer garments correctly, you can look very stylish and chic, but if you go wrong well let’s just say you might be mistaken for a Vegas streetwalker and you don’t want that to happen.

Believe it or not, springtime is not that far away and very sheer clothes will be everywhere, so be prepared.  Fashion Reverie picked some of the celebrities that know how to wear sheer clothes correctly. Always keeping our readers in mind, Fashion Reverie points out how to wear the transparency trend without “over exposing” yourself.

Celebs_SheersSheer tops

Ah, some sheer tops are gorgeous, but unless you are an A cup it is difficult to keep it all in place. There are few options. You can wear only a bra or a simple camisole underneath. It is up to you how much sexy you want to shine through. If you want to look a little more conservative is to pair a sheer top with high waist bottom.

Mollie King, China Chow, and Cheryl Cole are perfect examples of how to look classy in sheer tops. Jessie J even went to meet Prince Charles in a sheer top. She looked classy and it is an outfit to remember.

Collages505Sheer skirts

Every girl looks good in a sheer skirt as long as you choose the right silhouette and style. There are many options; simple sheer, layered sheer or half sheer. It has been a few seasons that this has been one of the “to go” looks on red carpets and some celebs have mastered it. Ciara, and Alexa Chung wore totally different styles and versions, but all three look great.

Collages506-001Sheer dresses

During the awards season these are in demand.  There is at least one sheer winner for each award ceremony or red carpet.  We picked out just few that caused quite a stir. Beyoncé with her dramatic entrance at the Met Gala, Gwyneth Paltrow with the side toosh, and Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture, as usual.

Sheer pants

Sheer pants are definitely less dressy and give you somewhat of a more edgy look. Kim Kardashian and baby rock sheer well in pair but this laced jumpsuit was just what we needed as an example of how to nail the look.

Au Revoir Joan Rivers!!

A few weeks have past since we lost one of the biggest icons of show business, Joan Rivers. Some loved her, some found her jokes crass, but in the latter part of her career, Rivers did influence the worlds of fashion and red carpet glamour.

“Who are you wearing” is the question that is now asked on every red carpet and when Rivers came up with it, at the time did seems as an odd thing to ask. But as always, Joan was a head of the times.

She was a comic, actress, fashionista, entrepreneur, animal lover and one of the hardest working people in Hollywood.  As we found out from her documentary, “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work,“ her biggest fear was to have an empty appointment planner.  It is great to know that she was fully booked with many fans waiting to see her perform or to see another episode of “Fashion Police” until the end.

Known for her sharp tongue and dirty jokes, Fashion Reverie would like to remember her unique style and some of her most memorable outfits.

Collages489FUR

Her Upper East Side style had edginess. She was attacked about wearing fur many times but hey, the lady liked it and she wore it well.  Whether it was blood red or a neutral color, she kept warm with at least one, sometimes two of her fur pieces. Not P.E.T.A’s favorite, Rivers was some fur designers’ favorite model.

Collages492STATEMENT NECKLACE

Joan was best known for her necklaces. She had her own line of jewelry on QVC since 1990.  She was a master of accessorizing which she proved many times.

Collages491FITTED JACKETS

Ladies of a certain age should dress a certain way.  One thing we can say for sure is that Joan never over-exposed herself, and if you did Joan would call you out. She knew how to pick the right jacket in style and silhouette!

Joan_Rivers_Style

FLOWERS

Joan understood flower power. It is one of her signature red carpet looks. The whole point is to place it and match it well. Fashion Reverie is all for it.

Collages490

FEATHERS

She ruffled a few feathers but she wore them well, too. If anyone can pull off feather look without looking like a go-go bar dancer, it was dear Joannie.

One of our favorite girls will always make us smile. Fashion Reverie is sad to see her go; we don’t think she was quite done, yet. Still, Joan Rivers found that perfect balance between fashion and humor. We couldn’t ask for anything better!!

Celebrity Report: Grand Slammers with Style

Collages375It is no secret that some of our favorite tennis athletes have great style and are having some influence in the world of fashion.  It’s not easy to look good while running down balls that are coming at you at 120mph with sweat dripping down your face.

With 2014 US Open Tennis less than a week away, Fashion Reverie decided to draw attention to some of the top tennis players that have a fashion sense on and off the court.  It is no secret that after dominating the court these tennis stars dominate red carpets and gala affairs.

Images courtesy of zimbio.com, bleacherreport.com, and pinned via Stephanie

Novak Djokovic images courtesy of zimbio.com, bleacherreport.com, and pinned via Stephanie

Djoker Nole (Novak Djokovic) is number one on the ATP list, personality list and sense of style list.  This witty 27-year old has taken the hearts of many tennis fans with his performances and impersonations of fellow colleagues during matches. His rivals might not be thrilled by his courtside imitations, but Anna Wintour has shown her support. If she is not watching him play during the US Open, she makes an appearance at the annual Djokovic Foundation Gala—even though it happens during NYFW.

Over the years, Djokovic has picked up few fashion tips. His style is simple but very chic. He is often seen hand in hand with his best attribute, wife Jelena. The couple wed just few weeks ago in Montenegro, on the island resort of St. Stefan.

Maria Sharapova images courtesy of dustjacketattic.com, modamob.com and sports.yahoo.com

Maria Sharapova could be mistaken for a Russian supermodel.  This Russian beauty and six-time Grand Slam champion has been featured in many advertisements and has had many modeling assignments, topped with a feature in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. Fact is she looks stunning in editorials but she developed great sense of style on her own, proven by her very chic outfits!! Glam, sporty or casual, she knows how to dress!

Images courtesy of dailymail.co.uk, newsvillas.com and filmigallery.org

Ana Ivanovic images courtesy of dailymail.co.uk, newsvillas.com and filmigallery.org

Ana Ivanovic is another Grand Slam winner with supermodel potential.  She has had ups and downs in her career, but when it comes to wardrobe choices there’s no back and forth! She is often called the most beautiful woman of tennis and she is single, so guys can we challenge you?

The rumor is she is one tough cookie and definitely has plans to move even further up on ATP list. Serena and Maria watch out! Sharapova has found that delicate balance between classic long gowns that make her look very feminine and short dresses that give her a more playful youthful appearance.

Images courtesy of huffingtonpost.com, fashionbombdaily.com and huffingtonpost.com

Serena Williams images courtesy of huffingtonpost.com, fashionbombdaily.com and huffingtonpost.com

Number one on the WTA ranking list is Serena Williams. She is high on Fashion Reverie’s list of best-dressed tennis players and is known to turns heads on the red carpet.

Serena is curvy, tall and athletic and sure knows how to show off her attributes.  She picks colors that match her dark complexion and fiery personality. Serena in a royal purple dress was one of Fashion Reverie’s favorites for the color, but  she is also eye catching when she show off her delicious curves in a red dress. We had to share a photo with our readers of Serena with her puppy, lounging by the pool but still ready for a last minute red carpet appearance. (On the QT, Serena is showing her collection during New York Fashion Week, right after the US Open. Fashion Reverie will be front row center, bringing you all the 411 on Serena’s spring 2015 collection.)

Fashion Reverie wishes them all lots of success at the 2014 US Open. Keep looking fabulous on and off the court!
