Wherever has the year gone? As autumn arrives, so does the anticipation of a new fashion season including a mixed bag of trends, late-night parties, and last, but certainly not least, fresh model faces. Alas, some rookie models last onlyfor a season and others for good reason a lot longer. Fashion Reverie loves a model that can give good face, and in so saying, we’ve noticed a few faces that we adore and believe, have the potential to last more than one season, having just enough of the IT factor to facilitate a long modeling career.

The fashion industry stands to attention and enlivens when noteworthy fashion moments occur. Those moments are few, far and in between, so the recent introduction of Rosie Assoulin’s intellectual aesthetic into the fashion industry’s fray of emerging designers is a celebratory moment and worth taking note.

Rosie Assoulin has the whimsy and daring flair of a couturier’s imagination. After just one year and four signature collections, it’s exciting to see Rosie transform classic ideas reshaped, remixed and even re-volumized with pure elegance, perfected the Assoulin way.

Assoulin’s collections have made such an impression that her rise to the top includes a strong fan base of industry supporters and clients. Supermodel Lily Aldridge’s appearance in a stunning white silk Assoulin gown was a red carpet winner indeed at this year’s amfAR event. Assoulin’s recent Swarovski nomination proves that her point of view is worth more than a mention or nomination; Rosie has something excitingly special to offer women.

Her approach to dressing up appeals to women that acknowledge the livelier sides of their personality.  Get dressed and have fun; play Chaka Khan’s ‘I’m Every Woman’ and select any style from Assoulin’s collection to add joie de vivre to your career, motherhood, dancing in the eve and dining on the weekends. An Assoulin woman celebrates the freedom of diversity in living fabulously and Rosie likes to dress them in grand silhouettes, movement and bold colors.

Editor’s Pick: Nicole Richie’s No Rules

“I try not to go by any rules, especially when I’m talking about mixing prints, because I’m so inspired by the ’60s and ’70s—and their rule was that there were no rules,” said Nicole Richie.  And if you glance back at Nicole Richie’s fashion labels, House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate, Richie has a particular predilection for vintage 60s/ 70s clothing aesthetic.

That same spirit of liberation expressed in Richie’s clothing line has now become the inspiration behind her new fragrance, No Rules. Like the name implies, No Rules goes beyond the boundaries of convention bringing together that sense of 60s originality combined with a nostalgic nod to the Bohemian lifestyle in a way that’s fresh, modern, sensual and timeless in its own right.

No Rules, is not Nicole Richie’s first excursion down the fragrance path, so to speak. Her first fragrance, Nicole was created in collaboration with TPR Holdings LLC., expanding her fashion empire into the world of beauty.  Sexy, provocative and eye-catching—all descriptions reflected in her signature perfume collection.

No Rules opens with top notes of sun-soaked Mediterranean orange flower, delicately sweet Turkish almond blossom and the rebellious essence of juicy kumquat to create an irresistible tension that draws you in. At the heart, exotic Balinese frangipani and purple jasmine exhale rich opulence, while a splash of Brazilian coconut water accentuates a carefree, bohemian vibe. sacred sandalwood, indulgent Madagascan vanilla bean extract and amethyst crystal musk envelop the skin in a warm, sexy halo.

No Rules by Nicole Richie Eau de Parfum will be available March 2014 for $45.00 (100ml) at fine fragrance retailers nationwide.

Editor’s Pick: Zuhair Murad’s Barbie

blakely lively and barbie

New York socialite Blake Lively looked like a living doll on the red carpet of the premiere of Savages in December, wearing a nude-hued gown featuring dramatic, striped geometric design created by designer Zuhair Murad.  Lively made quite an impression on fashion icon Barbara Millicent Rogers, who has 10 plus million Facebook likes, and just celebrated her 55th birthday.  You know her by her nickname, Barbie.

Barbie is the number one doll in the US, selling every three seconds somewhere in the world. Barbie’s employer, Mattel, Inc., worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of toys, was also impressed with Murad’s design. So they decided to immortalize the red carpet look by having Murad re-create it for Barbie. The Zuhair Murad Barbie® is part of the Gold Label Collection®, and is now available for the adult collector for $75.

Although girls between the ages of 3–6 years old, own an average of 12 Barbie dolls, there is a vast community of adult collectors numbering an estimated 100,000 according to Mattell. The New York Times has reported that 90 percent of the collectors are women with an average age of 40.

Downloads193Murad, who began designing as a hobby, is now internationally renowned for his couture gowns. At the Vanity Fair 2014 Oscar Party,  Murad gowns were worn by Kate Hudson, Iman Chanel and Kristen Bell. “Ever since I was a child, I used to imagine designs for imaginary clients,” says Murad.  Barbie certainly fits into that category.

But  Murad is not the only one who began their design dreams with imaginary clients. As a little girl, I spent countless hours playing with my Barbie dolls, even designing and sewing one-of-a-kind outfits for the doll, says Cynthia Rowley.  “I guess you could say Barbie gave me my start as a designer. Anna Sui says, “I started dressing Barbie dolls with my own designs at an early age.”

More than 75 famous designers have outfitted throughout Barbie’s career, including Gucci, Galliano, Versace, and Vera Wang.  At the fall 2009 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week  more than 50 designers created fashions for Barbie’s first ever runway show.  Barbie has even had a make-over by Tim Gunn (Tim Gunn Barbie® Collection) and  Christian Louboutin has made her shoes complete with red soles (Christian Louboutin Barbie® Shoe Collection).

Barbie first made her appearance at the annual New York Toy Fair on March 9, 1959, from the creative womb of Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattell, She said she was inspired as she watched her daughter Barbara and her friends playing with paper dolls in games of make-believe. “My whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted to be,” Handler explained in her book, Dream Doll: The Ruth Handler Story. “Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices.”
