Editors’ Pick: Missoni Spring 2019 Campaign

Gisele Bündchen may not be slaying on the runway anymore; however, that does not mean she has retired from fashion, in spite of having a wealthy, famous quarterback husband and two kids. (Gisele retired from runway shows in 2016.)

For its summer 2019 campaign, Missoni features supermodel Gisele Bündchen and Tamino Amir Moharam Fouad. Tamino Amir Moharam Fouad is the latest sensation in the European alternative rock scene.  Gisele and Tamino are set against a backdrop of celestial bodies and galactic destinations.  This summer 2019 campaign is resplendent in the nocturnal lights of space, as the stars and planets transform into an ethereal background. Skies are as blue as a baroque theatre, desert landscapes are animated by sand dunes and craters, painted by the reflections of stars which frame Gisele and Tamino.

Gisele and Tamino are two heavenly beings that float from one celestial plane to the next. Both models pose, preen, and saunter as they are transfixed in different galaxies, reflecting and embodying the nomadic spirt of Missoni.

Dresses encrusted in ruffles and gossamer knitted mesh or iridescent ensembles in space-dyed lamé drape the body of a dancing Gisele. The meditative Tamino wears suits in loom-knit or woven fabrics with grosgrain-like textures as he contemplates the obscurity of space.

As celestial travelers who transcend space and time, Tamino and Gisele, as the modern-day Missoni man and Missoni woman, are the latest projections of where Missoni’s Creative Director Angela Missoni wants the brand to be placed. Fashion Reverie’s Top Stories of 2018

2018 has been a banner year for Fashion Reverie. We re-established our fashion editorial sector, producing some of the best editorials in the online magazine’s history. Several former editors returned to the masthead. And we expanded the range and depth of stories Fashion Reverie covers.

Now, that we are at the end of 2018, Fashion Reverie looks back at some of the top stories featured on our site, cataloged in this look-back article in no specific order. As we look back, we are also looking forward, expecting and anticipating that 2019 will exceed our expectations.

­Hubert de Givenchy passed away in March of this year. His genius, innovation and elegant style will be missed. Most Americans and the rest of the world first became acquainted with Givenchy when designed that iconic black dress for Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany.”

Fashion Reverie had the unique opportunity to speak with top model Sandi Bass who was a part of Givenchy’s cabine—his inner circle of models in the 1980s. She graciously spoke with Fashion Reverie about the special relationship she formed with Givenchy, a relationship that evolved and lasted up until his death.

2018 was all about the fashion editorial at Fashion Reverie. Since our inception in 2012 we have shot our own fashion editorials. We pulled out all the stops in 2018, and our “The Future Is Now” editorial was one of our best efforts. Conceived by editor-in-chief William S. Gooch, this fashion editorial projected how fashion male consumers will look in the future, a future that is actually right now. Associate Editor Kristopher Fraser styled the editorial and demonstrated that he is so much more than a content editor. With Ken Jones photographic genius, and T. Cooper expert hair and makeup skills, our “The Future Is Now” editorial slayed!!

In one of our staff meetings, our Executive Fashion Editor Carl Ayers suggested that in 2019 we highlight a brick-and-mortar store every month. Carl’s idea was such a winner, we started this new initiative a little early, December 2018.

Our feature on the Bishop Collective, an online and brick-and-mortar store on the Lower Eastside, demonstrated the new challenges of running an online retail and brick-and-mortar store. And Bishop Collective;s co-owner Dmitri Koumbis also detailed how brick-and-mortar stores are making a big comeback. This nuanced feature gave voice to Bishop Collective, which is on the cutting edge of an ever-evolving retail palette.

Nina Simone was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. Fashion Reverie’s Editor-in-chief William S. Gooch was inspired by this posthumous induction and came up with a Nina Simone fashion editorial based on Nina Simone’s iconic song “The Four Women.” Our Executive Fashion Editor Carl Ayers styled this editorial narrative to the ‘nth’ degree. Kudos also goes out to photographer Carl Chisolm and makeup artist T. Cooper, both bringing their special kind of brilliance to our “Nina Sisterhood” editorial.

This was a very revealing interview, and surprisingly one of the few interviews conducted with Judy Gellman about “American Woman.”

In our search, Fashion Reverie wants to make sure we give the perfect gift, especially to our significant other. We aim to give them something that speaks directly to them—something that is thoughtful, meaningful, and special.

That’s why this season Fashion Reverie has bypassed the expensive luxury items. Instead, our team has created a gift guide of the best personal presents to give to your better half this holiday. No combing the malls for this years’ “must have” gifts and no scouring the web for this seasons “it item.” These selections are all about personal style—gifts they will enjoy with their significant others without the need of commercial hype.

Some couples have a tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve. If this is you, then we suggest you start the holiday on a cozy note. While diving into topics such as fashion, music, style, beauty, and attitude, How to Slay demonstrates the influence of Black trends on mainstream culture. Accompanied by images of the most celebrated Black tastemakers, this is an anthology of today’s Black style icons.
