90s Baby

In fashion and beauty what’s old is new again and again … and again.  This season the 90s are back baby and taking over.  Nineties looks in beauty and fashion were all over NYFW from the silver glitter cat eyes at Tory Burch to the teased updos at Sergio Hudson.

“I love that we just recycle makeup and I love the 90s trend that’s coming back in the moment,” Charlotte Tilbury Lead Global Pro Arist Kelechi explains.  “I was born in the 90s and I feel like that era speaks to me, I belong in that era. I’m loving that pointed lip, the really soft eye, and loads of mascara.  Again, I think the 90s woman really played to their natural beauty and it’s all about enhancing your natural beauty,” Kelechi exclaims.  “So, I love that we’re really moving away from the stronger looks and the heavier makeup. Don’t get me wrong I still love it and am still obsessed with full glam, but I’m loving that people are playing with texture and real skin this season.”

Intense Black Cat Eye

Lead Artist Diane Kendal, created an intense cat eye at Jason Wu, utilizing The Jewel Stick in solid black from the designer’s own beauty line for stop and stare intense cat eyes.

Tommy Hilfiger models also sported a signature intense cat eye with a nod to the 80s.  Lead Makeup Artist Sam Visser used a kohl eye pencil on the inside, top and bottom lash lines, as well as the eye crease.  Next, Visser layered a powder matte shadow onto the lid, blending the extra shadow up and towards the outside corners of the eyes.

Fresh Faces

On the runways at NYFW, all ofthe top makeup artists stressed the importance of enhancing natural beauty.  Trading heavy full glam makeup and contouring for letting natural beauty shine through.

Focusing on a clear beautiful complexion, Maria Livingood, Pro Aveda Artist focused on minimalism at Vivienne Tam.  “Aveda Hydrating Lotion was applied [to all models] to give them really natural and really clean skin,” explains Livingood.  Adding that a little concealer was added where needed, but keeping look was fresh and radiant.

Wrapped Blush

“Everybody this season is looking for a brighter blush and a nice natural flush,” shares Molly Ganster lead artist backstage at Homolog Paris.  To create a sun-kissed flushed look, Ganster applied blush in the center of the face from the apples of the cheeks across the nose.  She paired that with the same tone on the lips to keep it cohesive.

At Christian Cowan, models blush extended from their cheeks to the middle of their brow.  The look created by Smashbox Lead Artist Lori Taylor Davis kept the rosy hue the center of attention.  Davis created the look with Smashbox’s Halo Sheer to Stay Color Tint which was applied liberally on each model.

ALIÉTTE was all about that rosy glow, too.  Makeup Artist Keita Moore and Kevyn Aucoin Beauty’s Global Director Nick Lujan used Kevyn Aucoin’s The Neo-Blush in Sunset to add a little warmth to the models’ complexions and the runway.

Metallic Nails

Silver nails are back in the spotlight.  At Tommy Hilfiger, models wore shiny metallic manicures created by Lead Artist Naomi Yasuda.  To get the look, Naomi simply prepped the nails with The GelBottle’s Base Coat.  Next, Yasuda applied two coats of The GelBottle’s Mirror Chrome Liquid Metallic Studio Gel and topped it off with Extreme Shine Topcoat for a glossy mani that looks good on all skin tones.
