The event of the year was certainly The Royal Wedding of Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex and Prince Henry, Duke of Sussex, this past weekend at Windsor Castle. In order to land an invitation, you certainly had to be a Royal or an A-list celebrity. With that you had to pick proper attire, which made it even a bigger task if you had to match your significant other.

Women had to wear formal day dress. For men, ‘morning dress’ was required, which is the daytime formal dress code for royal weddings. Male member of the royal family can opt to wear their military uniforms, being that they are all commanders of various branches of the British military. (You will observe that both Prince William and Prince Harry wore their military uniforms with all of the regalia.)

However, other male guests wore the more the traditional ‘morning dress.’ Because the royal wedding took place early in the day, it was too early for tuxedos. That said; men’s ‘morning dress’ consists of cutaway tailcoat/morning coat that is either black or charcoal grey with a single button closure and peak label. Striped trousers are usually grey with black stripes. The waistcoat (vest) is usually grey or light yellow, other pastels are permissible, single-breasted or double-breasted, usually with lapels. The 4-in-hand tie can be light grey with subtle pattern, light colors are permissible. Optional accessories can include a top hat, white pocket square, gloves and cane.

True to royal tradition, female wedding guests should wear colorful hats or headpieces; fashion at its best!
