It’s unlikely that you haven’t heard, but actress Meghan Markle has become engaged to Prince Harry of Wales. While Meghan Markle has been making headlines by landing Britain’s most coveted bachelor, and being the first woman of color to marry into the royal family, the Fashion Reverie staff has their eyes on something else: her style choices. (Not a hard guess; we are a fashion publication.)Although Markle has never been a major red-carpet style star, now that she’s being thrust into the spotlight, her fashion choices may become global headline news. Within a week’s time, she could easily see a headline on townandcountrymag.com for her style choices. Recently, a ZARA plaid topcoat Markle wore sold out in a day.

The LINE coat, Parosh dress, and the Maison Birk earrings she wore at her engagement announcement are selling out faster than the namesake brands can supply. WWD reported that LINE’s website saw so much traffic, it crashed. The $750–priced LINE coat has become so popular, the brand renamed the coat “The Meghan.”

Recently, the actress was spotted carrying a burgundy tote by Edinburg-based label Strathberry. After photos of her with the bag went public, it sold out in a record 11 minutes. It was her first royal appearance with Prince Harry in Nottingham, and one that would lay the groundwork for her proven ability as a celebrity fashion influencer. LINE was an established Canadian brand; however, they were relatively unknown until the announcement of Markle and Prince Harry’s engagement.

Traditionally, fashion pundits would focus on the wife of the royal next in line for the British throne, which would be Camilla Parker Bowles, wife of Prince Charles. That said; Camilla Parker Bowles’ (the Duchess of Cornwall) fashion style pales in comparison to the late Princess Diana, not readily recognized by the international press for her fashion choices. (The memory of the late Princess Diana’s inimitable style is still too fresh in the mind of the Brits, for Camilla to get much style traction.)Instead, the fashion pundits have turned their attention to Duchess Kate, whose choices from affordable fast-fashion brands like ZARA to British brands like Erdem have garnered her praise from the international fashion press. The Duchess’ crowning moment on the way to becoming a fashion icon came when she walked down the aisle with Prince William in an Alexander McQueen gown.

British journalists and residents alike are wagging tongues about who will dress the woman set to be married to the man fifth in line for the British throne. The Bridal Council has speculated potential designer options could include everyone from established designers like Reem Acra to newcomers like Gracy Accad. Those are just a few of the American designers in the mix, but it’s also possible Markle could choose a European designer. The top two contenders named on sites are French designer Roland Mouret and British designer Erdem. Markle is known to be a big fan of Mouret, having worn two of his designs in the past.

There’s no word as of yet on whether or not Markle’s stylist, Jessica Mulroney, will have any hand in her wedding day choices, but so far she’s been Markle’s secret weapon. The celebrity stylist has been working with Markle since she moved to Canada to begin filming “Suits.” It was Mulroney who handpicked Markle’s engagement outfit, as well as the Mackage coat and Joseph skirt that the actress wore for her first royal outing with Prince Harry. Mulroney is also no stranger to wedding style; she’s a consultant at Kleinfeld’s, the New York–based bridal store.Though Meghan Markle may not get as much fashion buzz as Kate Middleton, Meghan will turns head in Great Britain and abroad. Fashion Reverie cannot wait to report on Markle’s great style choices.
