For those who have wondered what Nicola Formichetti has been doing since his departure from MUGLER in 2013 and his exit as creative directorship at Vogue Hommes Japan in 2012, you only have to take notice of NICOPANDA, the clothing brand Nicola created with his brother Andrea in 2015. Based on the panda cartoon, the New York–based street wear brand is known for its whimsical and playful approach to ready-to-wear and accessories.Since its inception, NICOPANDA has become a favorite brand of celebrities, social media influencers, and youth culture enthusiasts. And the brand has also set itself apart because of its collaborations that are as varied and wide as the fashion industry has ever experienced. “NICOPANDA is a world I’ve created around my alter ego, which began as a simple character named after my nickname growing up, but has since evolved into a fully developed lifestyle brand. Beyond being an idea, which represents universality and individuality, NICOPANDA is a fashion brand fusing eastern and western aesthetics through clothing and accessories,” explained Formichetti in a models.com interview.NICOPANDA’s latest collaboration with Urban Outfitters (UO) consists of favorites from NICOPANDA’s current offering, as well as some exclusive items only available at UO. The NICOPANDA x UO became available on November 13 on urbanoutfitters.com and within select Urban Outfitters stores across North America and Europe, and will live across all UO social and web platforms.“I am so excited to launch with UO! Their stores and website are so much fun to visit and shop—it is a perfect home for NICOPANDA. I wanted to develop an exclusive collection for our launch with UO men’s and women’s—something fun and easy to wear. For this collection specifically—we took the classic idea of camouflage and shook it up with vivid colors—red, purple, pink, blue, yellow. The idea is to stand out—not blend in! I suggest layering them all together for a full-on look,” detailed Formichetti. The 8-piece women’s wear assortment includes a maxi puffer jacket in white camo, a playful mini-dress with cold shoulder detailing, a sheer maxi dress in red, a pink camo hoodie and matching joggers, a sheer ruffle dress in black, a puffer jacket in pastel camo, and a maxi puffer scarf. The men’s collection consists of a long-sleeve tee, an oversized hoodie, a double layer tee, a camo sweatpant, a puffer scarf, and camo hat. Prices range from $40 to $350.
