Supermodel Kendall Jenner has been named Fashion Icon of the Decade by the fashion website Daily Front Row. The honor will be bestowed on Kendall during New York Fashion Week: The Shows (NYFWS) on September 8.

Though Kendall Jenner has 83 million followers on Instagram, not all fashion industry professionals are on board with Jenner receiving this honor. “Oh please! What about @NaomiCampbell or @CindyCrawford you know real models who got to the top due to hard work not who mummy is. Pathetic,” Twitter user Ginger Winger wrote as reported on fashionnetwork.com.

Kendall Jenner is a member of one of the wealthiest and most influential families in entertainment. Combined reality shows, video games, apparel and cosmetic brands has rendered the Khardashian close to a billion dollars in wealth.

A new tennis fashion direction

Pharrell Williams’ foray into fashion continues. Williams has partnered with Adidas for a disruptive men’s and women’s campaign entitled “Don’t Be Quiet Please.”

The “Don’t Be Quiet Please” collection is marketed to a new market of tennis players during the US Open. “Every tennis match starts with the same two words: ‘Quiet Please.’ But change can be noisy and our love can transform anything,” explained Pharell Williams in the campaign’s manifesto.

The collection will include tennis staples that bring a new perspective to age-old favorites that include footwear and apparel. Instead of just classic tennis whites, the collection will include bold accent colors of orange, red and blue.

“Outside the court we will let our voices be heard as loud as we can. If you see the potential for good, speak up. Together, we can change the game for the better,” continues Williams in manifesto he wrote for the collection. The full collection is available August 31st at Adidas stores and online, at Williams’ Billionaire Boys Club flagships, and also select retailers across the country.

The people united

On the heels of the melee and racial disturbance in Charlottesville, the CFDA and the ACLU have joined forces in an initiative, encouraging fashion industry professionals to speak out against bigotry and racism. During New York Fashion Week: The Shows spring 2018 season designers who are presenting collections are being asked to support the initiative by wearing and handing out the initiative’s blue ribbon.

“We want to be on the front line, not the sidelines, to boldly fight to protect our precious rights and freedoms, which has taken on a renewed urgency after the heart-wrenching events of Charlottesville,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of CFDA, in a statement. “Our goal is to actively support concrete work that will move our country meaningfully forward. The ACLU is doing that critical work.”

Several designers including Tracey Reese, Diane von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung, Narciso Rodriguez have pledged their support. According to fashionnetwork.com, the ACLU and CFDA have also created the hashtags #StandWithACLU and #FashionforACLU to spread the word about the initiative. During New York Fashion Week, Lyft will also be donating $5 from every ride to the ACLU when users enter the code “FASHIONSTANDS.”
