Anniesa Hasibuan made history in this past September when she became the first New York Fashion Week: The Shows (NYFWS) designer to produce a fashion show in New York City with all the models wearing hijabs. Hasibuan’s spring 2017 show was a critical success last September and she returns to NYFWS this week with a show composed of immigrant models.
Anniesa Hasibuan chose to make a statement on the Trump administration’s stance on immigration in the US by holding a casting call seeking models that are immigrants or first/second generation. Everyone was accepted at the casting regardless of the model’s immigration status, but the casting call sought immigrants to highlight the beauty of diversity in the country.
Fashion Reverie will be backstage at the show and reviewing the runway presentation. So, stay tuned!!
