Angelina Jolie smells purty!! On Monday, it was announced that Jolie is to be the face of Guerlain’s new fragrance, Mon Guerlain.
Jolie was chosen to front the new fragrance from Guerlain because the brand identified Jolie as the epitome of the contemporary woman. This contemporary femininity attracted the eye of Guerlain director of perfume creation Thierry Wasser.
Jolie will dedicate the entire earnings for the Mon Guerlain campaign to charity, in line with her work as a Special Envoy for the UNHCR.
Pink pussy power
Did you know that there was fashion coming out of the Women’s March on Washington on Saturday, January 21? Well, if you didn’t, be aware that was a fashion element to the march.
The 500,000-plus Women’s March crowd was a sea of pink knit hats, “Pussy Hats,” in fact. The brainchild of Jayna Zweiman and Krista Suh, the “Pussy Hat Project” was a visual response to controversial comments by President Trump. Remember Trump’s comments, “grab the pussy.”
“We were imagining this sea of pink hats making a really large statement,” Zweiman told Fast Company magazine. “So, there was a big goal. I think having that visual creates an impetus for people to really get involved.”
Consulting with LA knit storeowner Cat Coyle, Zweiman and Suh came up with a knit pattern that was very easy to reproduce with the coal having every participant in the Women’s March wearing a pink hat. They almost achieved their goal.
Another Hadid model
Did you know there was another Hadid that modeled? Well, Zadig & Voltaire did.
Bella Hadid is joined by her younger brother Anwar in Zadig & Voltaire’s spring 2017 campaign. Anwar and Bella are also joined by disc jockey sensation, Clara 3000.
Looking to find the right models and personalities to front the brand’s rock n’ roll spring 2017 collection, Zadig & Voltaire found what they were looking for in Bella, Anwar, and DJ Clara 3000. The campaign was photographed in the Zadig & Voltaire’s headquarters in Paris wearing leather jackets, light parkas and “Amour” cashmeres.
The campaign will be released in three installments, 12 visuals and eight web ads between January and May 2017.
French labor unions are concerned that Vivarte group’s sale of Naf Naf and Andre chain stores will bleed retail jobs. Vivarte had already decreased their sales staff at retail chains by 1,850 employees in 2015. And French labor experts expect a loss of 5,000 more jobs in 2017 from other retail store chains.
This comes on the heels of 1,500 jobs lost in 2016 due to store closings. Mark & Spencer and Banana Republic recently announced they would be leaving France and Carnet de Vol, American Apparel, MS Mode, and Bata are downsizing. This job elimination and downsizing affects mostly women who make up the bulk of low-wage employees in French retail stores.
