In case you didn’t notice the Cuban athletes wore some really sharp jackets during the Opening Ceremonies at the 2016 Rio Olympics. There is a reason for that style and panache. Christian Louboutin designed the Cuban teams’ Olympic uniforms.

According to the huffingtonpost.com, the collection features scarlet jackets for men and sandy tones for women, calfskin sneakers for men and low-heeled sandals for women. These items are complemented by an array of shorts, skirts and capris, carried out in a chic and sober way.

But the question that still comes to mind is why the Cuban team? It would make more sense to design outfits for the Brazilian Olympic team because there are three Louboutin stores in Brazil, but none in Cuba.

The idea of designing for the Cuban team came to Christian Louboutin during a photo shoot on the Cuban coastline with good friend Henry Tai. Henry Tai is a former international handball player and founder of e-concept store SportyHenri.com. The design motif was a custom-made wardrobe that was sporty but could be worn to a formal event. If you would like to purchase items from this project, think again!! This project was a labor of love for Christian Louboutin and cannot be purchased in stores or online.
