Editor’s Pick: Maria Elena Headpieces

Something old, something new, something borrowed … something bedazzled? To complete your bridal looking for that very special day, Fashion Reverie wants to remind you that no princess gets her happily ever after without a crown. If you want that headpiece fit for royalty, Maria Elena Headpieces has you covered.

The elegant and chic accessories brand began over a decade ago when founder Maria Elena created her first headpiece as a gift to her daughter for her daughter’s wedding day. Although, the Miami-based accessories line is found in select boutiques all over the world, Maria Elena Headpieces strays far from mass market, similar product, retaining a sense of exclusivity.

Maria Elena, has set out not to create just another accessory, but a piece of headwear that is suitable as a family heirloom, passed down through generations. Maria Elena Headpieces can range in price from $300 to $650 and are crafted from luxurious materials including silver, antique gold, rose gold, Swarovski crystals, and pearls.

Earlier this year, the brand began gaining celebrity traction for their ready-to-wear headpieces when “Orange Is the New Black” actress Jackie Cruz wore one of their headbands on the 2018 SAG Awards red carpet. Cruz was quickly dubbed a millennial princess with online audiences, stylists, and consumers wanting to know where to acquire the headpiece that completed her look.

Maria Elena has now evolved beyond the bridal market to having her headpieces being a must-have accessory for among evening and red carpet appearances. Whether you are walking down the aisle or walking down the red carpet, you can stand out with one of her beautiful headbands. For that consumer who might want to make a bold statement that is not as flashy as a tiara, the headband is a more fashionable and subtler accessory. Remember, Meghan Markle isn’t the only one who should be looking like a princess on her wedding day.

Fashion Reverie’s Top Beauty Looks from NY Bridal Week for the On-Trend Bride

While we love soft pink lips and ballet slipper–hued nails, the spring 2019 bridal season was full of untraditional styles, hair accessories, and touches of metallic! Fashion Reverie has rounded up favorite trends to say, “I do” to!

Images courtesy of Alon Livine, Viktor and Rolf

Center PartsOne of the easiest trends to pull of this season was hair parted right down the center. Whether hair was styled up or down, during New York Bridal Week simple styles with middle parts were seen everywhere!

Alon Livne showcased an effortless looking glossy, wet hairstyle with the oh-so-chic part. Hair was pinned back behind the ears to really showcase the model’s face.

Viktor and Rolf also went for a simple beauty look to complement their magnificent gowns with a short and sweet straight style with … you guessed it a center part!

                                                      Images courtesy of Lela Rose

Metallic EyesLela Rose had a metallic rose moment at their downtown fashion week presentation. Lead artist Kelli J. Bartlett for Glamsquad created this stunning bridal beauty look by prepping the eye with MAC Paints in Bamboom. She then stamped the shimmery rose shade from Huda Beauty Obsessions Palette in mauve right into the lash line.

“This shadow is super, super soft, so you are going to see eyeshadow fall off, it’s just going to happen,” Bartlett warns. To make sure you don’t have specs of metallic shadow all over your face, she recommends using Erno Laszlo’s Multi Task Eye Serum Masks as a shadow shield. When you remove the mask, you have a nice clean under eye Bartlett explains. Not to mention the added benefits of your eye being lifted and even the reduction of blueness under the eye as well!

“Maybe this isn’t your day of look, maybe it’s your rehearsal dinner look where you try and play up some color. You try something a bit different,” Bartlett gushes regarding how wearable this style is for all brides. She even suggests it for a bridal shower to change it up a little. “It’s not often you wear all white, blush or ivory, so don’t be afraid to be a modern bride … do something a little unexpected.”

                                               Images courtesy of Naeem Khan

Faux MohawksWhile Fashion Reverie realizes that not every bride is going to embrace this look, Moroccanoil’s Artistic Director Kevin Hughes designed this for one very particular rockstar bride in mind. “A new, modern girl who is brilliant, active in society, an artist. She desires a couture feeling with a fresh twist.”

If that describes your style to a T, try it out yourself. Start by clipping up a horseshoe shaped section of hair on the top of your head. Then take the remaining hair and create a classic French twist, securing with bobby pins. Now to make the standout mohawk! Release the top section and begin to create multiple knots and pin them into the base. This shortens the hair and gives the foundation for that stand-up style! Once all the hair is pinned into a line down the center of your head, spray the hair with Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray and Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Extra Strong at the root and tease it with a small comb to get the hair to stand on end. Finish the look with a healthy spray of your favorite hairspray (Hughes used the Extra Strong Hairspray again) and your wedding ready!

Blurred LipsWhile it’s true we usually try to avoid our makeup looking as if it’s been wiped off, Vivienne Westwood’s show used these blurred red pouts to add some interest and dimension to her collection.

To recreate the look at home we could give you a step-by-step instruction, but this isn’t the kind of look you want to be quite so precise with. So go try on your favorite shade of lipstick, that color that complements your complexion like no other can, and give it a little smear. Ta-da your runway ready, just like that!

                                                Images courtesy of Lela Rose

Ponytails For Days“I’ve been talking about ponytails for 20 years now, they’re always on trend,” shares Giovanni Vaccaro for Glamsquad backstage at Lela Rose’s Bridal presentation. “There’s always a version of a ponytail [trending],” he explains.

For Lela Rose, he created a long low pony right on the back of the neck. The hair is soft with great texture and finished off with a velvet bow tied around the hair and the neck. But, this isn’t the only ponytail Vaccaro created for Bridal Week; he also created a power pony for Hayley Paige.

Vaccaro explains more about why ponytails are perfect not just for brides, but for every occasion. “It’s based on how the women’s feeling, her silhouette her facial shape. So if you want an instant sort of Botox or facelift you can do something really high and really tight and sleek and gelled and secure. If you want something that’s really feminine and soft you can do something lower, leave pieces hanging out around the face. It’s so customizable and that’s what makes it fun,” he explains.   “That’s why ponytails will always be in style. No one is every going to say the pony is gone, it’s not gonna happen!”

                                                    Images courtesy of elle.com

AccessoriesDesigners didn’t want the gowns to be the only show stoppers this season, topping their looks off with crowns, flowers, hats, ribbons, and more.

If you’re craving a little extra opulence on your big day, look no further than THEIA’s spring 2019 royal wedding–inspired collection. Creative Director Don O’Neill encompassed all the majesty of the monarchy with a modern twist, pairing his designs with delicate feminine bridal makeup. In true British royal fashion, each of his brides wore a crown to complete the wedding ensemble. Even if you’re not Meghan Markle, every woman should feel like a princess on her wedding day.

Reem Acra, inspired by Khalil Gibran’s “The Prophet,” showcased stunning ethereal silhouettes and dry, undone, romantic waves with large floral crowns. Celebrity Stylist Brian Buenaventura created “S” waves sprayed with René Furterer Vegetal Texture Spray for effortlessly cool hair. The look also featured hidden skinny cornrow braids working as an anchor for the large floral crowns, which half the hair fell over the crown to complete the royalty meets free spirit vibe of the show.

However, accessories were so much more than crowns! Alon Livne presented a gorgeous large lace hat for the woman channeling old school glamor and Viktor and Rolf used headbands for extra interest and of course let’s not forget those stunning velvet bows around the ponytails and necks of models at Lela Rose.

Dr. Natalya Fazylova Informs about Bridal Beauty Treatments

Looking great at your nuptials goes beyond just a great bridal gown or looking slim and trim. Having great skin does wonders and will make heads turn while you walk down that aisle and at your reception party. Remember, many brides have pre-bridal parties a few days before “the big day,” and you need to look bright-eyed and bushy tailed on that day as well.Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa has a plethora of treatments that can make you have that bridal glow on your wedding day. Dr. Natalya Fazylova spoke with Fashion Reverie about two treatments that are sure to deliver the goods.

Gisele Bundchen getting vampire facial. Image courtesy of vampirefacial.com

Fashion Reverie: What is the vampire facial?Dr. Fazylova: The vampire facial is a procedure by which we collect the patient’s own blood, process the blood in a specific centrifuge and it separates stem cells and growth factors within the platelets in the plasma. We take the plasma that is platelets and growth cells and we address wrinkles, pigments issues and we inject the liquid from the plasma in those problem areas. It is a natural way to regenerate growth factors and collagen on the patient’s skin. It is anti-aging, it will improve skin texture, tone of the skin, and if you inject deeply, it will help collagen grow and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

FR: What would be the benefits of the vampire facial?

Dr. Fazylova: The benefits will help to erase the wrinkles it will improve the tone of the skin, decrease pigmentation and help to build the collagen. We start to lose collagen after the age of 25. There is also a healing property in this process, so we also use it on patients that have bad acne and scars. It has multiple ways of addressing skin problems.

FR: How would this procedure work well for brides and members of their bridal party?

Dr. Fazylova: Depending on the skin condition, the best way to get benefits from this procedure for brides-to-be and their bridal parties is do a series of the procedure, and a minimum of three. Someone who needs just a little modification of the skin with better skin tone, and texture of the skin, after only one treatment patients will find their skin will have a beautiful healthy glow. And as we know all brides want to glow on their wedding day. Sometimes if minor adjustments are needed for the skin, you will see improvement with just one treatment. However, for more long-term results for problem skin, the patient would need a series of treatments, preferably scheduled one month a part. Brides should schedule the treatment a couple of months in advance.

FR: What is the turnaround or downtime with this procedure where you can actually see the benefits?

Dr. Fazylova: There is barely any downtime with the vampire facial. You may have some redness for up to 24 hours. The procedure does have healing properties, so there is no skin damage after the procedure. My clients actually achieve the glowing skin effect after the redness is gone, a few days later. If we are working on more severe skin challenges, you see benefits after a couple of weeks. What is good about this therapeutic procedure is that benefits continue well beyond the procedure. It stimulates collagen production and will continue well past a year if the patient has received up to three treatments.

FR: Who should not have this procedure?

Dr. Fazylova: Any client that comes to us we perform a 3-D skin analysis that shows skin damage up to three layers. Clients that have active lesions, rosacea, psoriasis, or active acne are not good candidates for the vampire facial. If clients have severe skin issues we recommend other treatments to treat those challenges, wait for the results and then they may be good candidates for the vampire facial.

    Vampire facial before and after

FR: Why is this procedure so popular among celebrities?Dr. Fazylova: First, the vampire facial is very popular among celebrities because it is a very natural procedure; it is not toxic, nothing is injected into your body but your own blood. There is never any bad reaction to the procedure, there are also no complications if it injected around the eyes or other sensitive areas. And the client also sees a great result and it is again your own blood regenerating your own cells to work more efficiently.

FR: What are the price points for this procedure at Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa?

Dr. Fazylova: Our price point for the vampire facial for one treatment is $950 for the face, if the client needs face and neck the price point is $1250; however, if they want buy a package we offer discounts of 20% to 25% off.

FR: What other body parts to you use the vampire facial for other than face and neck?

Dr. Fazylova: It depends on what the client needs. It could be done additionally on patient’s chest and décolleté, as well as hands. We have seen great results on hands. This treatment is great for a bride that is wearing a bridal gown that has dipping décolletage. This treatment has also been done for the back.

FR: Could you speak to the IPL Skin Rejuvenation with pulse light that you also perform at Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa?Dr. Fazylova: The IPL Skin Rejuvenation is a type of laser treatment that is used to treat hyperpigmentation or sun damage and can treat rosacea blotchy skin, redness, and broken capillaries. It is very quick treatment that takes around 20 minutes. There is also very little downtime. The patient can go back to work the next day or even the same day, looking refreshed and vibrant.

FR: What is the price point on this treatment?

Dr. Fazylova: At Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa the price is $150 and if the patient buys a package that get 20% to 25% off.

FR: Which consumers are not good candidates for this treatment?

Dr. Fazylova: It is not safe for clients that have dark skin and/or skin type 5 and skin type 6. IPL Skin Rejuvenation targets red and brown pigment and the treatment could burn off some of the pigment that darker skin clients already have. They could develop light spots on their skin. Also, patients that take antibiotics or certain antidepressants that make them photosensitive are also not good candidates for IPL Skin Rejuvenation.

This treatment is primarily for clients that have fair skin and are having issues with hyperpigmentation and have skin issues due to sun damage. The vampire facial is excellent for patients with darker skin.

                                          Radiance Aesthetic and Wellness Spa

FR: How should consumers pursue IPL Skin Rejuvenation?Dr. Fazylova: This treatment should be purchased in a package of three treatments with each treatment scheduled one month a part to see great results. The patient could then repurchase another package, if need be, in six months. The patient should not go out in the sun a lot after receiving the treatment, so the best time to have the procedure is in the winter and early spring.

FR: Brides typically wear quite a bit of makeup on their very special day. What is the downtime between getting IPL Skin Rejuvenation and/or the vampire facial and wearing makeup? And, what other products should brides not use if they have recently had these procedures?

Dr. Fazylova: Patients should not do any peels soon after these procedures. They should also not use products with Vitamin C. We provide our clients after the procedures with a post-treatment kit that provides them product they should use weeks after the procedure, as well as a skincare regimen.

Editor’s Pick: Angela Mitchell’s Fall 2018 Shoe Collection

                                                 Images courtesy of alamy.com

Shoe collections come a dime a dozen, particularly in a market oversaturated with inexpensive, lackluster product. In response to US consumers’ penchant for product at bargain-basement prices, some footwear brands have sacrificed creativity, quality and innovation for lower prices and banality. Angela Mitchell is not that kind of footwear brand.Established in 2016 by creative designers and sisters Krystal and Marilyn Lavoie, Angela Mitchell is a Canadian emerging luxury shoe brand, handmade in Italy for men and women. And the brand’s fall 2018 debut during New York Fashion Week: The Shows was a bonafide hit, demonstrating that the design duo’s design aesthetic contains that delicate balance of retail viability and fashion sensibility. Something much needed in the current milquetoast market.

Inspired by a journey through Morocco and the cities of Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir and Berber rural villages, Krystal and Marilyn Lavoie found a way to weave Morocco’s orange sunsets, desert horizons and rich North African culture into a footwear collection that centered on modern sensibilities while pushing fashion’s proverbial envelope. By employing semi-precious stones into a lot of the footwear, particularly on high quality leather, the brand recalled the exotic Moroccan landscapes with its unexpected beauty and mystery.

The women’s collection offers 7 contemporary and classic styles. Among oxfords and fringe-embellished pumps, the Tichka boot embellished with geometric patterns calls upon Moroccan tapestries. Swarovski crystal appliqués in jet, silver night and hematite sparkle against leathers mastered by Italian artisans. The men’s collection, featuring 6 styles, includes the standout Tizi oxford. Designed with the same geometric pattern and audacious spirit as the Tichka, the shoe sets the course for unlimited and unforgettable exploration.

Made of genuine Italian leather, the Angela Mitchell luxury men’s collection features six unique and distinctive men’s styles—all of which carry with them the signature Angela Mitchell mark and embellishments of Swarovski crystals. The men’s footwear collection is designed with the same geometric pattern and audacious spirit as its sister collection, setting the course for unlimited and unforgettable exploration.
